I use them and wouldn't not. My daughter is 3mo and moves like crazy in her crib. I need them to protect her face/head. Besides...We all have a time to go.
I think theyre pretty pointless :)
I've never seen a child actually be injured by a bumper pad. I bought the mesh breathable bumper pads. Created a softer environment around baby rather than the bars of the crib. Keeps the baby from being able to get a leg or arm stuck between bars. The mesh bumper pads are not very expensive and I find them to be a good purchase. When the child is older you can use the regular ones but not for a while just to be safe.
Bumper pads should never be used in infants’ cribs, according to new guidelines released by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). This recommendation, issued as part of an updated and expanded set of guidelines on safe sleep and SIDS prevention for babies, is the first time the AAP has officially come out against the use of crib bumpers. According to the AAP, there is no evidence that bumpers protect against injury, but they do carry a potential risk of suffocation, strangulation or entrapment because infants lack the motor skills or strength to turn their heads should they roll into something that obstructs their breathing.
That is the current information given on cot bumpers... no it may not cause SIDS, but as there isn't an exact known cause for SIDS. The guidelines are put into place to reduce the risk. If a bumper can cause suffocation, strangulation or entrapment, then they do increase the risk of babies health.
What do bumpers have to do with SIDS? Sudden infant death syndrome happens for no reason and drs have no idea how to stop it. If the baby suffocates on the bumper that's not sids. It's accidental suffocation.
I have them , but what I do is , I weave the bumpers in and out and that makes it safe for baby
I have them, but they make breathable ones that are supposed to protect against SIDS. It's just like a mesh
Personally I haven't ever and wouldn't use a bumper, there's no purpose for them other than they look nice, and they increase the risk of SIDS. It's not worth risking just for the sake of the cot looking nice.
