Honestly i would have allowed the Dr to cut off my hand if it was gonna stop the contraction pain! so i dont even remember the epideral going in... i was focused on sitting as still as i could so the epideral would be that much faster! they did give me fentanyl first to help me relax for the epideral so i think they were worried about me staying still lol but for real i was not moving an inch pain or no pain that epideral was happening!! and it was heaven after that!!
My daughter was face up, head arched back, the back of her head was pressing into my spine! and she was stuck there thru every NON STOP contraction... i was induced with cervadil to get me into labour and it was aweful! i have shooting pain down both legs and honest to god i never had a break from the contractions for 12 hours! then i got the epideral :) and in the end i had a c section as like i said she was stuck and never dropped...
I told my doctor if the pain gets too much then I will get it. I have a huge needle phobia. I have panic attacks when I have to get blood drawn and that's just a tiny needle lol. I read somewhere about women comparing natural birth to getting the epidural and a lot of the women said their babies seemed more awake and the women wasn't as drowsy or tired afterwards. I'm a wimp with pain, but I keep telling myself that Labor pain is good pain, and soon I'll see my baby. I am still leaving the option open if the pain gets too much though.
i never had one cause i didn't need it. i did use the gas until push time. my uncle administers epidurals and he doesn't like them and says its worth doing naturally. i totally agree with him. i did do perineum stretches the last month in preparation and i absolutely recommend them for your first labor. i always figure try naturally and see if you really need the epidural.
best of luck!
They wont let you see the needle until after its done. The needle is a bit daunting and was my main concern. They numb it first and then a nurse had me leaking over hugging a pillow. I bit the pillow as hard as i could and a second later it was done. It's really quite painless although the meds feel weird, like ice going thru your veins. Then you're on cloud 9. Good luck!
The need the looks large but it does not go that far in it is long so they can thread the epidural cath into the space. If you want a natural birth all the power to you, that's wonderful, but if you want an epidural but are just scared of it, try not to worry about it it will go smoothly and you will be surprised at how fast it goes getting it. Many do not even notice getting the cath cause they are so focused on the pain of the contractions.
Good luck!
I had 2 of them the first one was great but the second one I still felt everything I don't think it really worked. I also went natural twice me personally I would of went natural with all.
I've never had it before, this is my first child. I've been watching baby videos non-stop and I saw a few with the epidural needle and it scared me out of wanting it. I heard it doesn't really hurt because they numb you with something before they do it, but I'm too scared to have something like that in my spine so I'm going at this birth natural.
like stated above its hard because you of sitting through the contractions but i didnt think it hurt as bad as a contraction it was just a pinch to insert needle then a slight burning sensation when they insert the meds.... like i was having a contraction and he inserted the meds as i was contracting and the pain immediately went away
As for me it didnt hurt what so ever. All i had in my mind is seeing my lil boy so i guess that helped me not to think on the needle.
The worst part is the freezing & sitting still thru contractions, after that its easy. It really is worth it, for those who want it. Good luck!
It didn't either time for me. My contractions hurt so bad and I was so focused on them I didn't even notice the epidural being administered.
