family pet

I'm 20 weeks and my fiance are talking about getting a pet for company.. he is gone for 15 hours a day with work and when he's home he pretty much just sleeps.
Since finding out I was pregnant I've felt so isolated and alone.. I don't have support from family (they're drug addicts and I don't want them around me or baby) and I feel like I don't have any close friends either.

I'd love to get a puppy but I'm just worried about having such a young animal around a newborn.

Any advice is welcomed.

xx

You should also think about the dog is going to poop and pee. And you probably have to be the one cleaning it up while your hubby is away. Cat/dog poop has a lot of bacteria that could be dangerous. although some say you can just put on gloves when changing litter box. But most doctors suggest staying away from it. Also, depending on the type of puppy, it may shed his hair all over place and needs excessive housecleaning, which could be stressful on a pregnant lady. Also, being you only have a couple months to train the dog, he might impose some danger to newborn baby. Dogs take a while to get familiar and settle down for a new environment. & the size of dog too, it's hard to play with a big dog when you're getting big yourself. I personally love dogs but I don't have one now after considering all those things. It's not just bills & vet appointments.

It'll be easy if you train the puppy before the baby gets there. And the puppy should be fine if you spend time with it. Baby's and puppies are great a to have together but having time for both will be a challenge but if you are confident that you can then do it. I have three dogs and I'm 25 weeks pregnant and without them I'd probably go crazy

We've got more than enough money to allow for the dogs expenses and also for the baby.

I've continuously had dogs growing up and the training doesn't bother me, I know I can do it.
I'm just worried about the dog becoming jealous or baby hurting the dog as they both grow up.

And don't forget its not just food and water and toys. Its vet bills, appointments for shots, and lots of extra activity and work.

Having a puppy is like having a baby. Having two babies, one that poops in a diaper and one that poops on the floor is a handful. But if you can do it! Then go for it. Its all about how you train the dog.

We got an 8wk old puppy when I was 17 weeks in. Our hope was that we would be able to train her with the basics by the baby comes.  It's been a lot of hard work and really exhausting, but we love or girl. I would not recommend it if he isn't around to help you take care of her though.  My husband and I are able to share responsibilities so it makes it easier to handle. It also is an added expense!
