It can be both. They're genetic but it also happens a lot faster if you gain weight too fast. My mom didn't have them but with my first I gained 20 lbs in like a month at the end and they attacked me.

90% of the time stretch marks are genetic, though they can be caused by gaining weight too quickly. I weighed a little more than you pre-pregnancy. I weighed roughly 110lbs. I am now 28w and have gained 16lbs. The recommended weight gain for someone who is a healthy weight beforehand is 25-35lbs.
You still have 26w to go until baby gets here, and right now baby is tiny, so the weight you've gained isn't baby, its from indulging your cravings slightly too much. But your Dr will probably recommend you only gain 15lbs for the rest of your whole pregnancy, which will be really tough. Especially in the third trimester when baby gains a lot of weight. So just be careful and try to eat healthily

Stretch marks are genetic...if your mom got them when she was pregnant with you then you have a chance of getting them to..I'm 38 weeks and I only have two stretch marks
