Hi,
Did you go back for your 9/11 ultrasound and did they find a yolk sac and fetal pole?

Hi,

I had my LMP on 3 July 07. I am 7+ weeks pregnant and have no problem apart from sore breast, tiredness and little nausea. InitiallyI had a good apetite which is reducing now a days. I went to the Doc yesterday, she did the USG and the gestational sac is only visible with no foetus inside. The size of the sac is 6.5 which she said should be around 7.5. I have been asked to come for another USG on 11 Sep 07. This is my first pregnancy and am 30 yrs old...is anything to worry?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,

If no yolk sac or fetal pole has been seen, it most likely means one of two things: 1) you have an early pregnancy, or 2) you have a pregnancy outside of the uterus (an ectopic pregnancy--usually in the fallopian tube) and the collection in the uterus is a pseudosac.

A repeat scan in two weeks time will be helpful, as well as an hCG level.  Additionally, in my practice I'd follow your hCG level, at least initially, every 48hrs to determine if they are rising appropriately or not.  Because you could possibly have an ectopic pregnancy (which can result in life threatening bleeding), if you have any abdominal or pelvic pain or vaginal bleeding you should seek medical attention right away.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
