Ugh hha. ***** cause I'm starving as soon as I was up. And my apt is at 9 am. Thanks everyone I'm not so freaked out I thought it was an all day thing
Call your dr office and ask what your restrictions are on food. There are lots of different responses on that it looks like
I actually liked the fruit punch & everyone tells me they hate it. My Dr didn't give me any restrictions prior to the test. So basically just blood work.
I have to fast for the one hour and three hours one. No food pass midnight.
Don't pick the fruit punch, it's so gross. I almost throw up.
Hopefully you will pass the 1 hour test and don't have to deal with the three hours one.
Best of luck :)
For the 1 hour test there is typically NO diet restrictions. However, if you eat or drink a lot of sugary stuff it can cause your levels to be high and they will likely ask you to come back for the 3 hour. If you eat normal and eat healthy it should not affect the test at all. The glucose drink typically comes in Orange, Fruit Punch and Lemon Lime. I prefer Orange but most people prefer the Lemon Lime - I have yet to find anyone who likes the Fruit Punch. As the above poster mentioned, some offices give jelly beans. The worst part about the whole test is the sitting and waiting around for an hour.
For me I had to eat a really early breakfast, then nothing but water until the point where I was seen for the test. At that point they gave me something that was like a flat Sunkist which was surprisingly easy to drink for me, then I had to wait another hour without eating or drinking anything else. After that, they took blood samples and I found out the results at my next dr appointment. Some women can't stand it, but other than the fact that I was starving I did fine with it. I've also heard that some offices use Jellybeans instead of the drink. Just depends on the wheres I guess!
They will probably have you drink a bottle of sugar water pretty much is what it tastes like. I didnt think it was terrible but others do. Its like flat soda. Ask for the lemon lime if they give you a choice but you will drink it and 1 hour later have your blood drawn.. Thats about it. Make sure not to eat anything at all 3 hours before the test.. at least that is what my dr said. Check with yours though to know their exact rules but most important no sugar at all 3 hours before the test.
