The reason that chemical lightening isn't as "harmful" is because the lightener is not supposed to touch the scalp, whereas in a color service the color does come in contact with the scalp. It's debatable on whether or not it really does any harm to your baby, but any mother would agree it's better safe to wait it out 13 weeks then to try before then. But at 20w5d you're in the clear! :)
ok good i am well into my second trimester im 20 weeks and 5 days so a rinse shouldnt hurt so thanks everyone for the advice.
I asked my dr about coloring when I was pregnant and they told me it was fine. There is no real evidence that it can go into your scalp and enter your bloodstream. But be careful bc I used a home hair color once (I usually go organic) and thought the smell would make me sick! Good lick girl!!
My doctor told me that for some reason, coloring hair darker is worse for you than going lighter, but neither is advised. The chemicals can seep into the scalp and into the blood stream, even if it's just a semi/demi permanent color or a rinse. If you can, try to just get lowlights in foil or a cap, so the color isn't actually touching your scalp.
I agree, once you are out of the 1st trimester, I think it's okay. I get my hair relaxed 2-3 times a year, and I am due for one soon. Now that I am well into my second trimester, I feel more comfortable about it. I had it done in my other pregnancies as well and my stylist knows not to leave the relaxer on my hair too long when I'm pregnant.
