having contractions but not in labour

Ive been having contractions for 12hrs. (pain in lower pelvis under bump and back) they are very regular and painful. i just had a routine appointment where the consultant said my cervic was very posterior and although soft and sticky was barely 1cm dilated. she said i was not in labour and the pain was my cervix gettig ready.
She couldnt do a sweep so i have another appointment on wed.
im now having a bath but worried as to how long this will last as im in agony and not even in labour

turns out i was in labour and gave birth later that day.

I can't tell you how long it will last but I had 2 bouts of false labor this pregnancy but it is my 4th and final baby. I never had false labor with the other 3. The first bout of false labor actually sent me to the hospital. I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes apart and they were painful and with being my 4th I wasn't taking any chances. The second bout of false labor lasted for 2 days. I was having contractions every 5 minutes apart some were very painful others were not so I decided not to go. I am currently 38 weeks 5 days pregnant and if he doesn't come before thursday I am going to be induced at 7:30 am. Kinda hope he comes on his own but I don't think he will. What helped me was hot showers on my back and drink a lot of water to try and calm the baby down. Put your feet up and try not to do too much as this can cause more pressure and more contractions. Know how you feel I've been having contractions since eight weeks ago but mine weren't dilating me or regular :( 39+2 now.. and nothing..
