Oh and by the way, you can call and ask them that way if you don't have an appointment anytime soon. A lot of times you'll probably talk to a medical assistant, but they'll be able to give you guidance throughout the pregnancy if you have any baby-related questions.

I'm sure you're okay, just make sure you stop and call your doctor if you feel something's off...also like I said, you might just ask your doc at your next appointment. Only they really know what is right for you and your baby. It might be something they're okay with now, but might want you to stop at a certain point, or it might be something they want you to be cautious about now, but I would think this early on as long as you don't have any issues you should be alright. I had some early bleeding, AND I had a couple of herniated discs in my lower back, AND I'm a little older, which is the reason for their mean 15 lb rule. At the very beginning, I was told not to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk, but my circumstances probably aren't like yours if you're habitually lifting buckets of ice over your head. I'm impressed. :D

I'm lifting a bucket of ice over my head. You think that would be fine.

I've been on orders to not lift anything over 15 lbs this entire pregnancy...which is not fun btw, I feel like a wimp. But I had some early issues in the first trimester so I think my docs are being extra-cautious. This is probably something you want to discuss with your OB at your next appointment.

If you overexert yourself you can cause your placenta to separate from the uterus.  That's why most doctors will tell you not to lift more than 25-30 pounds.

I lifted. Up to 50 pounds or more sometimes. At my work until I as 6 months my baby is healthy. Just don't over do yourself. And your dcyor will probably. Tell you no more than 35

Other ppl take caution when it comes to pregnant woman and tend to not let them do much... i was the same way with all my pregnant GFs and in most cases they would laugh and tell me they are pregnant not useless... lol but if they would rather you dont lift certain stuff and you dont feel comfortable then dont... not a big deal... i know at work it can be pretty heavy and lots of the staff wont even ask me to help them, they find someone else... i really dont mind especially with the unpredictable residents that can be mean sometimes and may try to kick or hit! I will actually refuse to do stuff that i dont feel comfortable but thats only when i CAN avoid it, as there are times there are only 2 staff on at a time...

If you were a power lifter or in the gym trying to do massive squats then yes lay off of that. And if you were lifting all day and made your self exhausted then you could have some complications. Sometimes women will go on bed rest or moderate bed rest because the Dr. thinks they are at risk for early labor and what not so they don't want them straining themselves. If you are worried call your Dr. and see what his opinion is.

Lifting heavy stuff will not cause you to lose your baby. As coffeebuzz said, your baby has plenty of protection. The only problem with lifting is you hurting yourself. As long as you're used to it and you're not getting over exhausted you're fine.

It really depends on you and what you are comfortable with. Its not as much that you are going to hurt the baby it is more about not hurting yourself. Baby is protected for the most part by you. But when you are pregnant and get further along your center of gravity changes and as you belly becomes larger your muscles streach and you get more strain on your back so it is easier to move incorrectly and hurt your back. Just don't over do it and keep good posture and as it gets more difficult cut down on the lifting or starting getting help.

From what i got from my Dr was that its in the 3rd trimester more that you may need to take it easier... obviously with a big belly and all you cant properly lift and your center of gravity will be off....

With me i have to be more cautious about how im lifting or turning... my tail bone is killing me!

Whatever you lifted before you can still do.  Your body is conditioned for it.  when it starts to become difficult then you need to dial it down a bit.
