he's here!!!!! last question!?

My son Ry arrived at 6:42am Monday morning, my 21st birthday!!!!! Best birthday present EVER!! Hes 7lbs 11Oz 20in long! He's absolutely the most amazing thing I've ever looked at/touched!

My last question: we found out he is, what they call, "tongue tied"! He has allot of trouble sucking and forming a suction seal, so Brest feeding is extremely difficult. I'm only producing colostrum still, but he can't suck to get any so they make me pump it, im only getting about 1-2 ml in 20 minutes. I know it ha allot of calories, but sometimes he gets so fussy, I feel like he's still hungry. :( should I be giving him formula along with thecolostrum too? Or is this really enough food for him? I just want him to be eating ok!

Thanks everyone!!!

I have to wait til he is older then if their is problems they will do it under anastestic then :( he only says da and babbles.. I am worried about how he will cope with speech.. danbaby - why don't they clip them in the UK?  Once he starts to talk,    if he's 100% tongue-tied (that is,  the frenulum comes all the way to the tip of his tongue) he won't be able to say L's and R's and other sounds.  Is there an age where they will finally do it?  Here,  it's often done in the dentist's office if no one has caught it before the first pediatric dental appointment (around 2 years).

Had my son on a friday and my milk didnt come in till that tuesday... all I was giving was the colostrum.. every 3hrs.. on that monday I went to a breastfeeding class.. and he had almost lost 1lb... I basically was not feeding him.. all he would do is cry and cry so they told me I had to give him formula! I felt like the worst mom ever!! Congrats and good luck!!

A babies tummy for the first week is something like the size of a marble ( I remember being so surprised when I read about it!) It does get bigger very quickly but it means that there's time for your milk to come in. Your pediatrician can tell you volumes of milk but it sounds like your expressing fine. One thing that helped me when I wanted to get a bottle for her was looking at a picture of her as it helped with the let down of the milk. I couldn't do it in front of her as she just got upset that she could smell it but not be eating. Sounds to me like you're doing great. Keep up the good work! :-) x

He is having problems suvking, so when I put him to reast all he does is smash my nipple. So I pump, but its hard to get that colostrum out. They said its easier when hes at breast bc u can keep swotchimg him and he can eat unyil he stos sucking, but with a pump u should do it 2 hours apart for 20 mins a peice. Im not sure why. But im going to.feed him the milk as soon as it.comes in, I juss dont feel like 1-2ml of.colostrum every 2-3 hours is enough for.him

If he's truly tongue-tied,  is there some reason the doctors won't clip his frenulum?

I've heard that women pump 20 minutes after the original feeding to help their bodies adjust and start producing more.  Are you not producing enough or is he not taking it... I guess I'm confused.  Best of luck!  I know it wasn't helpful but I'm sure someone else knows more!
