I had gestational diabetes in first pregnancy and I also had low iron.
Im the morning I would wake up and do half of juice and half of water
I would eat more soups . Chicken, whole grain bread
, I just ate 1 or two tortillas . I didn't eat candy donuts, soda, none of that stuff and if I would crave sugar I would eat a small cookie I also had long walks, exercise and drank plenty of water at first I was annoyed because I didn't know what to eat but its not that difficult. Good luck
Ur nutritionist shud give u paper work of ideas of meals. U can always buy measuring cups to get the right amount of portions. U can eat any amount of meat as long as it's not fried. 1fruit is 15g or 20grapes. U shud never leave ur dr without fully understanding why he or she is saying. Make sure u test ur sugars as they say.
I kno how u feel i just found out monday i have it and i wont see a nutritionist til the 8th so im clueless on what foods i can have how big of portions and all that
Eat smaller amounts more often.
For snacks, you can have some celery sticks with peanut butter. You can have about a cup of light pop corn. You can have a small salad with cucumbers and a light vinegrette. You can have a hard boiled egg. You can have two rice cakes with peanut butter. You can have a few spoonfuls of humus with some cut peppers, cucumbers and celery.
There are all sorts of options. The American diabetes association's website has great ideas and tips. You can also find great recipes on Pinterest and other websites.

Vicky, I had gestational diabetes also. Is your doc not going to send you to a nutritionist? You should be given sample meal plans with calorie/sugar counts.
Look into a paleo or clean diet. Those are perfect for women with gestational diabetes. There are some amazing and easy recipes out there. You'll feel like you have a whole new body after a couple weeks.
I have been a diabetic for years...eat healthy lots of veggies fruits whole grains...watch your carbs stay away from sugary foods and drinks and stay active and monitor your blood sugars...ask your Dr if you can see ask nutritionist they can give you good info on what foods to stay away and which to eat.
