im getting a c-section :-(

I found out by ultrasound yesterday at 37 weeks 2 days my baby is breech, I was given the option of an ECV or c-section.  As I know there is a big chance of baby turning breech again after a successful ECV I've decided to go with the c-section.  I'm gettin this on the 8th Feb and I'm dreading it.
I'm just venting more or less and I'm a bit scared since this is my first baby and I'm not sure what to expect

Just an update on me...I had an ECV two days ago and am MORE than happy with my decision.  I would be weird for me not to have tried.  It is safer to have a baby vaginally then it is by c-section. Better for my baby and better for me.

I'm small, 5ft 2 and by baby was  8 1/2 lb and as I said turned successfully, but you must go with the decision that you feel comfortable with, because in the end a happy mum and bub is all that counts :)

The procedure to flip the baby is the ECV which I'm opting out of, I've finally.come round to the idea of the c-section and I think I've made the best choice for the safety of the baby

My cousin who is a chiropractor said there is a way to flip the baby.. see if chiropractors in ur area know how to do it! This way u can have a natural birth :)

A planned c-section is sooooo much easier than an emergency one. I had pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy, and I ended up so sick, they had to do an emergency c-section after over 24hrs of hard labor. I was suffering from all of the side effects of the high blood pressure, the labor, and the c-section when all was said and done. I didn't see my baby girl for 24hrs after I had her because I was still so out of it. I wasn't able to get out of bed for 3 days. I opted to schedule my 2nd c-section and it was amazing. It is like a night and day difference. I was up an walking within 12hrs, and held my baby boy after 1hr of recovery time. (The longest hr of my life!) If you do opt for the ecv and it doesn't work, don't worry, just be specific in what you want. Let them know that an emergency is not in your plans, and that if something doesn't look right, to take you back for the c-section. I know this is long, but I hope it is helpful.

Oh hun.. I was terrified when I was told my first had to be a c-section..I had to because she was big and wasnt dropping down into my pelvis..he would check n she would just bounce up!! Well on top of her being big, the ambilical cord was wrapped around her neck three times!!  I wasn't so lucky to have all the info you have gotten..I only knew the info given to me from the birthing class I took...and I still didn't have a bad experience..its not even close to how some make it seem..yes its scary to go thru something new, but just remember there are a lot of us that have gone thru it and did great!!.best wishes..;-)

Thanks all for the comments :-) my sister is a trainee midwife and she thinks I've made the right decision with the c-section, she's also taken me through the procedure from when I'll arrive in hospital till I go home and even though i need to stay in hospital a bit longer it sounds better than I expected. I would love a vaginal delivery but its taken me so long to conceive this little one I'm determined not to put it at any unnecessary risk, plus I know as soon as a doc begins to turn the baby Il tell them to stop as I'm really small but babys measuring 7lbs 15oz already.
I've done nothing but cry since I made the decision because I'm scared but hopefully all will run smoothly

I had a ECV and it was successful. It didn't even hurt! Had it done at 37 weeks at had her 3 days later at 38 weeks vaginally. She didn't flip around. Best decision I ever made!

I agree that if there is a risk with the ECV then I would also opt for the c-section.  They monitor you and the baby the whole time during the ECV and if you don't have enough fluid or the placenta or cord are in the wrong position or the baby is distressed at all they would stop or not try?  For me I would rather try the pain of the ECV then the section...just me.

i think you should try for an ecv, especially if this is your first baby. the baby is very well monitored the entire time and if the baby shows any sign of distress they stop.like the previous post said they have a team of or ready incase.

I've had three c-sections. Ill have my 4th in may.  2 of mine were an emergency c-sections.  It really isn't that bad. A part of me will always feel jipped that I wasnt able to have my boys naturally (event though I really wanted to) but in the end all that matters is that baby is here and healthy.
The OR can be a scary place because it's cold and everyone moves very fast but it's not that bad. You will get your spinal block/epidural, lay back and the surgery starts. You can feel some pressure and tugging during the operation but no pain.  Recovery isn't bad either.  After a few days you can go home. You can't lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. Pain killers will help wirh the pain but you wont need them long.  My only suggestion for aftee the surgery is to find a good support pillow, afterwards it would be really uncomfortable to lie flat until I healed. Good luck to you

The main thing for me i should say was that my in laws were trying to tell me what my limit was when i knew how much i could handle, they were trying to say that i couldnt do stair the whole 6 weeks and i wasnt allowed to drive because i planned on going home(to my moms) 2 weeks following... so i talked to my GP and he gave me the okay as i live in rural saskatchewan, i drive an automatic, i have cruise, and traffic is pretty slow going so it wasnt like i lived in a city where i would be stopping and going continuously... and as far as the stairs go i read after a week it was fine... and my Dr never ever mentioned any of this, nor did any of my friends Drs, also they didnt think i should be traveling with a baby that small on my own? it was a 2.5 hour drive that i travel regularly lol but they are paranoid over everything.... lol with this one i plan on going home 2 weeks after... thats with both my kids! they are gonna freak out :)

My c section was a last resort, failed induction, stopped at 7cm, and baby never dropped (was stuck) so it wasnt an emergency and went great, felt great following, wouldnt have known i had surgery, had no pain EVER.... well actually the one morning i woke up and tried to do a big stretch and felt a pain but that was cause i forgot lol

I had a successful ecv, I would give it a go, my baby stayed head down,  when they do it here its usually done at 37wks and they have the operating theatre on standby so if anything was to go wron, ie baby getting into distress etc they would whip you straight in, they usually check the postition of placents etc before they attempt and only attempt ecv if everything is looking good...

The ECV only has a 40% success rate and even after a successful turn, the baby could still turn back which would mean a c-section anyway, plus if there is not enough amniotic fluid or the placenta is to small its more risky for the baby which again could lead to the c-section.
I'm just not willing to put the baby at that risk or myself if the baby turned back, I just feel the c-section is better for the baby than myself, even though I would honestly love to have the natural birth :-)

Just a quick question why did you opt out of the ECV?  I have not had a c-section but I did have a ectopic that ruptured my tube and was cut just like the a c-section minus the uterus, which I think would be worse...and I've had two babies naturally....I'm 34 weeks and my baby is breech...I SO HOPE she flips if not I'll most diffidently try the ECV.

I'm the same way abt always moving around n being on the go, BUT I do give in for a week or two while recovering..its nice to be able to just get back to normal while snuggling with baby lots n lots!! I havnt needed to take the pain meds for as long of a period as the docs think you will need em..I think that's because I concentrate on just recovery at first. Honestly once you get the feel of how to manage, like getting out of bed, chairs etc. you will do fine..and it really isn't near as bad as some make it out to be, hun..don't listen to horror stories!!! Everyone's experience is different and I feel its only what you make it..!! ;-) You will be fine..;-) and again ask away if you have any specific questions..;-)

I just had my daughter on Christmas Eve via csection and it wasnt that bad. She is my first baby as well. Aubrey's head was stuck and she was getting stressed out so I opt to get it. I moved myself from the recovery bed to my hospital bed and was up walking around 12hrs later. My scar is so little you can barley see it. I know for some its not as easy but all you can do is make the best of it.

Thanks very much :-) I'm just worried I won't be able to do much for the baby If the recovery process is as bad as some people make it out to be, I'm one of those people always on the go and being restricted to slow movements etc is getting me down a little, I'm hoping things will be ok.  Thanks again for the comments they are much appreciated :-) xx

Hun, I've had three c-sections and will have #4 in July..I don't think haveing a sceduled one is near as bad as having an emergency one..you are able to prepare for the surgery..I highly recommend having yourself surrounded by a good support group of family/friends..I get so much help during recovery !! It's great..I get meals fixed for us, my parents come during the day n help and my in laws stay at nite so I can rest while they care for baby!! Plus I spend weeks b4 preparing meals and freezing em so when all the help leaves I still don't have to cook!! I've found a system that workable great for our family.. best wishes and if you have any questions feel free to message me..;-)
