I gave birth 3 months ago. Why do I feel so irritable and close to tears all the time? I'm sure its not Post Natal Depression. I adore my baby and I have a supportive partner but I feel rotton sometimes. I also get distraught at the thought of any sort of child cruelty. If, for example I see a story on the news about a child who has been hurt I can't stop imagining if that was my baby and I get distraught. This happens a lot. Is this normal?

Yes it is normal and a part of postpartum. Postpartum is not all about being sad and not wanting your baby. Your body is still whacked out by all the hormones and then after you had the baby no hormones. I remember getting angry over little things - like the cloths on the floor or the dog snoring... check with your dr if you are reallllllly angry. If not - when you get upset - try running in place. It help me not focus on the thing i was angry about and my husband just laughed at me.

Hello,

Baby blues and postpartum depression is quite common, and is not a reflection of the love you have for your child.  See your ob/gyn ASAP to discuss approaches for treatment.

Best regards,
