labour starts and stops?

So fed up now, I was admitted to the anti natal ward 5 days ago with contractions but was sent home the next morning as I hadnt dilated yet. I was 36 week then 37 week now. All week I have been having painful contractions all night long that wake me and stop me from sleeping, then comes morning they seem to have died down, still a bit of discomfort but nothing more! Im so fed of being in pain and uncomfortable and im confused as to wether I am in very early stages of labour or I am going to suffer this the next 3 or.more week! Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for replying ladys! Im just at the point now where im thinking "if your gonna start something bleedin finish it" lol. Feels like hes teasing me! So strange to say I cannot wait until the real pain kicks in because at least then I will know THIS IS IT! With previous labours, the pain came and baby came! This is all new to me this time

You are probably in prelabor. It can last for a few days or a few weeks. The best thing you can do for your self is relax. Getting frustrated, anxious and stressed works against you. In labor, your body produces oxytocin. When stressed, you produce adrenaline, which counteracts oxytocin. Adrenaline can delay, stop and even reverse labor. Baby will be here soon. Give your body time to prepare.

I haven't expierence this but have you may be timed them? If they start getting closer together then you know it's real labor and not your body playing tricks on you. Hope you progress soon! It must be so uncomfy.
