My Doctor told me not to take either, only allowed Tylenol medicines and mucinex.

No but you can take Tylenol cold, actifed, benadryl, chlortrimenton, chloraseptic spray, cough drops and Ayr nasal solution are all on the list of safe meds for colds from my doctor
