miscarriage at 12 weeks

I started to miscarry at 12 weeks pregnant..But it was incomplete so i took a 3 day round of misoprostol. I then went for an ultrasound where they told me that everything had been expelled successfully. Well it has now been 6 weeks since my miscarriage..During this time we have been trying to conceive again. I still haven't gotten my period and pregnancy tests have come back negative. Should I be expecting my period soon? Could I be pregnant but its not showing up on tests yet?

Thank you.

Hi!
I'm sorry for the delay in response--was very ill for awhile

I usually tell my patients to expect their next period within 4-6 weeks after a miscarriage.  Since you were fairly far along, your hcg levels may have been fairly high.
Your body won't ovulate until all the hcg is cleared.

Waiting another week or two wouldn't hurt, but after that, a call to your doctor would be a good idea.  Sometimes I like to jump start the cycles with a 5 day course of Femara or Clomid.  Usually they resume on their own.

Good luck!

I had a miscarriage in early July and just started my period today, 5 1/2 weeks later. My doctor told me not to try to concieve again for at least 3 months. You could go to your doctor and get a blood test to find out for sure.

I've had 3 miscarriages my last one was a few months ago.  It took me a full 6 weeks before I started my period again.  I was surprised because I didn't remember it taking that long in the past.  I think everyone is so different.  I have wondered before if our bodies could think of a miscarriage as a period and then maybe you have ovulated since then!  I guess only time will tell for you!  Good luck!
