I live in SC and I got approved within 2 weeks. They send you a letter here with your membership number so you can go ahead and use it for medical care, and then your card comes about 2 weeks later. All I had to provide was proof of pregnancy and my last 2 pay stubs from work.

I had to get emergency medi-cal bc my insurance decided to cut me off when I hit 36 weeks. When I applied I was told the approval process can take up to 90 days, however when you get approved they will cover you from the date you applied...does that make sense? Like if you applied on oct 1st but didnt get approval until dec 1st, they would cover the period in between.

I contacted the actual medi-cal worker and told her my situation, how I was very pregnant and needed to get my approval sooner and she was able to work with me, I got my letter of acceptance 2 weeks after I applied.

However, I must say that I applied strictly for pregnancy medi-cal, I believe it would have taken longer if I would have applied for general medi-cal because there is a lot more paper work involved, with pregnancy (at least here in california) no one can be denied coverage for pregnancy. You can aquire a share of cost if you make too much money.
