nuchal translucency

Hello,
I just got results from my nuchal translucency test and they were questionable.
My scan is normal but my blood work is not. Has anyone had this happen?
I have 3 children that are healthy, my youngest is 8. But now I am 38 and have not had any of these tests before.
My doctor said my ratio for downs is 1:27.  I know that is bad.  She wants me to have an amnio.
I wish not to.  Now I have to wait 4-5 weeks.  I would keep the baby and don't see why it has to be so evasive.  If the scan is normal they why is the ratio so high?
Please try and give me any answers or advice this is upsetting  for me and my family

Hi! I'm Cindie the person that Waitn838 mentioned.
i'm 23 and my 19 month old has down syndrome. my 4 month old doesn't (yep i planned them that close!)  Since you plan to keep the baby then just tell them NO you don't want the amnio. there are other tests that can be done.

What were the results of the NT scan?

3 and under is generally considered fine. Dr's get worried when the NT results are 4-5 and up.
Also~ Did they mention any "soft markers" on the baby?

Did baby have a nasal bone?

were the measurements on the arms legs stomach and head normal?

there are other tests. the tests are the level 2 U/S and at 21 weeks you can get a fetal echo to check for heart problems.

%40 of babies with DS are born with heart problems. BUT the majority of those cases can be closed with medication and time.

feel free to message me at any time with any questions or if you just want to talk. Click my name (martikadragoon) in my reply to your post here and then click send message on the upper right of my profile page.
I think your baby will be just fine! :) Doctors like to push for termination or invasive tests if T21 is suspected. I hate that and think they need to change it.

Even with those odds there is only a 3.7% chance your baby has a problem. If you are not comfortable with the amnio don't do it. They can tell a lot from the anatomy scan around 20 weeks and should be able to detect any of these issues at that point. I'm sure it would be difficult to worry all that time though.
