I helps prevent sid as the automatic motion of sucking will keep them from forgetting to breath
Till my lil one was seven months then I took it he did fine without it
Awee, he's doing good now right? :)
I plan on weining my son off of it...my son only uses his when im making him a bottle
How does it reduce the risk of sids? I would think because its in their mouth that it can get in the way during sleep.
I never used a pacified or sucked my thumb. but i was also breast fed till I was two lol
My daughter only used a paci for the first 2 days of her life. And has never sucked her thumb, m due April 27 with my second and I won't give her a paci either
I am going to give my son one just for bedtime becsuse of the sids thing. My family have always had pacifiers and seeing a 3yo try to talk with one i dont like so maximum age is 1 that my little one will have it.
Yeah I agree its different for each baby, but I like to get some opinions. It makes my decision easier:)
From what she said ^^ not every child screams when they don't get it right away. My son when a newborn had it all the time. As he got older it got cut down. When he would cry (just in general crying) I would give him something else.
My son used a Pacifier til he was one. He is almost 14 months. He started sucking his thumb a week after it was gone. He doesnt do it as much now. Only when he is going to sleep but he doesn't suck it in his sleep. He is starting to ween himself from it. It's hard to get opinions from other moms cuz the outcome can be different with each baby/babies.
Okay, thanks ladies! I'm so paranoid about thumb sucking haha just because its a hard habit to break.
Also remember children with pacifiers get really used to having it amd everytime they loose it or misplace it, it can be a headache hearing them scream for it and that happens all day or for my sister in law it did.
I heard it helps reduce the risk of SIDS after I heard that I changed my mind I'm using it even if its only for a few months.
Neither of boys used one and neither of them even suc ked their fingers or thumbs.
I did not give my son a pacifier . Here in India ppl generally don't. My son did not suck his thumb either. It's a personal choice of the mom.
Did she ever have problems sucking her thumb?
I never used them and my daughter does great, I said from day 1 she wouldn't have a paci and she hasn't!
Yeah, that's what happened to my teeth. I had to have them fixed 2 years ago because I couldnt take it anymore.
All my childrrn were different, my first I didnt offer a pacifier, my 2nd literally came out sucking her 2 middle fingers & sad to say she still does @ night..shes 12, & my 3rd only took one for about a month til I realized he wasnt crying for the pacifier, I wasnt breastfeeding as often as he needed. Im preg with #4, I wii try my best not to offer it but u never know
My nephew wouldnt take his so my sis never used them he is just fine n not a thumb sucker either. They say children who sucked their thumb feel some sort of security from it but it doesnt really replace a binky
I never used pacifiers with any of my six children. my sister in law used one with her daughter til she was two and the babies teeth shaped really poorly. The dentist said it was from her pacifier. I had no problem with thumb sucking either. Personally I feel like it savef me the headache of having to ween them off and crying for it.
My friend never wanted to give her baby a pacifier, because she didnt want to have her addicted to it. but now her daughter is 2 years old and her front teeth are "buck teeth" from sucking her thump and your two middle fingers. I personally will give my child a pacifier, and then wean him or her off as he or she gets older.
