ultrasound at the end?

I'm somewhere around 38 weeks and was wondering if anyone has gotten an ultrasound this late in your pregnancy? I only got one with my first. I'm worried that this baby will be a lot bigger.  Also worried about the umbilical cord being wrapped around it's neck. It was with my first son and it was a very scary experience because they rushed him away to get him breathing.  I'm basically looking for reassurance.  Should i ask for one?

I do ultrasound. Its not common in a normal pregnancy to get an official ultrasound late the the pregnancy unless you are post dates. Doctors usually don't worry about nuchal cords as most babies have them and deliver fine. They just cut the cord after head is delivered before shoulders are. As for size the ultrasound measurements are not accurate anyways so that's shouldn't really be an issue. We can only approximate a weight and they say its plus or minus a pound but I have frequently heard the weights being off even more than that. Good luck

They don't have one I'm the room.  You have to make a special appointment with a tech.  And i know I'm just scared that it will happen again.  Thanks for the responses!

Does your doc have a ultrasound machine in the room? If so just ask him to check real fast :) mine has checked the baby a couple times for me.

If your high risk I think the doc would order one but otherwise they don't do it that late. I had one at 30 weeks because they wanted to check my placenta after I had a brownish discharge. Then they said fluid was low so I got a cpl more. If babies heart is beating well at each doc appt and your on is not concerned, I doubt they'll just give you one. Do you think you might just be nervous it might happen again? Ask your doc anyway if you're real concerned. Doesn't hurt.
