you actually can if you have a very short cycle, the typical 28-30 day rule does not apply, sperm can live for 5 days if you have sex the day befoe your period is due, your period is for 3-4 days and you have a very short cycle, so ovulate the day after, the sperm is in your tubes and therefore  will fertilise the egg and off we go, the same as having a short cycle and having sex while you have your period, some women ovulate durning the las t day or two of their periods so can get pregnant then, it is usually rare because not alot of women have such short cycle but it can happen

To clarify the information you have been given.  YES it CAN be possible to get pregnant if you have intercourse the day before your period is due.  If your actual period (not just random bleeding) actually STARTS the day it is due it is highly unlikely-bordering impossible to get pregnant.  Even if you DID fertilize an egg at that point, when you begin to menstruate you shed the lining of your uterus.  This in turn will prevent the fertilized egg from implanting because there will be nothing to implant to.  As the zygote (fertilized egg) works it's way down the fallopian tubes into the uterus it would simply be flushed out with the rest of the menstrual blood and tissue. (it can be hard to distinguish between menstrual blood and any other kind of bleeding)

Now, if your period did NOT start the day it was due, or you just had random bleeding that was NOT menstrual blood, the chances increase some.  It really all depends on when you ovulated.  An egg is only good for approximately 24 hours after it is released from the ovary.

You typically ovulate 10-14 days BEFORE your period is due to start, of course there are exceptions to this rule.

The chances of becoming pregnant as a result of intercourse the day before your period starts is slim, but ANYTIME you have intercourse, protected or not, you run a chance of pregnancy or STD's-while the chances may be slim, it still exists.

you actuall can if you have a very short cycle, say a 21 day cycle, you would ovulate basically straight after your period, the sperm could still be there for the egg and bam your preggers
