question for preemie moms..

My daughter was born on Sunday weighing 4 pounds and 16 inches, I was only 35 weeks. shes very little but they let me take her home. She has a problem staying awake to breastfeed, I try to wake her up but eventually she won't wake up anymore. I was just wondering if its a preemie thing or is it normal? And if your baby did this, how did you fix it? It's so frustrating, I don't want to switch to formula but her pediatrician said if she loses any more weight I'm gonna have to

Are you doing skin to skin my little girl wasn't preemie but I noticed that helped keep her awake. Also when you notice she's starting to fall asleep express a little milk in her mouth that makes them relatch and continue feeding sometimes.

I'm in the same situation. My son was born 5 lbs yesterday at 36 wks. It is very common for premie babies so don't give up! Also there is nothing wrong with supplementing formula if you have to! I would love more  advice on this as well

My daughter did the same thing when I'd bf her. I had to strip her down to her diaper and with a cold rag wiper her face n body when she started to doze off on me

Both of my son's were full tern and would fall asleep breastfeeding so I started pumping and giving them breastmilk in a bottle they have to work pretty hard to breastfeed and for a preemie that could wear her out. A bottle flows alit easier.
