To add more...i believe its something like 1/4 or 1/5 pregnancies end in miscarriage in the first trimester. Has nothing to do with being rh-. Ive had one and it ***** but it is actually quite common.

@Babybump2012....to my knowledge the rh- factor doesn't come into play until the 2nd/3rd trimester which is why you don't need to get your shot until 28weeks. It shouldn't stop your sis in law from getting pregnant. And it doesnt matter with first pregnancies anyway. From my understanding once you have a pregnancy when you are rh-, you have antibodies that kind of activate and your blood fights off the baby like it is a virus or bacteria, which is what causes the late term miscarriages and why we need the Rogam(sp?) Shot to prevent them. But i'm just going on my family history of it. My mom, myself, and 2 of my 4 sisters are  all A- and have had to deal with it. If you need more info, I would do some research online :)

@wolfire... We share the same blood type which is extremely uncommon as less than 1% of the worlds population are AB-.  :) Even my Dr was surprised by my blood type, he almost never sees it in his practise. Lol.

I am AB- and my husband is O+ I have to have the rogram shot at 28 wks. (Same with my first) most places only check the female and take no chances so if you are negative you get it regardless at some doctors (if partner is also negative it is not needed cause baby will be -) but if baby is + (usually only happens is your partner is positive) you will be given the rogram shot after delivery to prevent your body from building antibodies for another pregnancy. Easy way to remember Rh- can only accept Rh- but Rh+ can accept both +&-. Hope this helps!

I know of a girl who had a successful pregnancy even though she had antibodies against the + factor. Baby had to have transfusions in the womb and was born early but healthy...it can be done! :)

I dont think baby will need it if its +, o- is the universal donor which is why transfusion centres want our blood so bad, we can donate to anyone and our blood wont harm them however we can only accept o- blood and I think 1 other blood type. Its maybe different for the other blood groups with the neg factor.

I'm b- and just got my shot a few weeks ago in the butt....it wasn't so bad. I didn't feel the needle but the medicine burned a little going in.

I'm A- and this is my 3rd successful pregnancy. My 1st one they gave in the arm and it was sore for a cpl days but now most places will give it in ur bum. Which helps a lot! I am 25 weeks now so will have to get mine soon. Nothing to it hun. :) But also if the baby has a positive bloodtype its my understanding that it will need a shot too after its born. So far both my boys have been negatives too so havent had to deal with that.

I am just thankful that they have the shot now. My mom suffered 4 late term miscarriages because of her Rh- factor and so did one of my sisters. So it truely is amazing the miracle of modern medicine. I'll take a healthy baby over a tender arm or bum any day :)

Ask which side they are putting it in and lift that heel off the ground, it stops your muscle tightening too much and it wont hurt so much!
