second pregnancy- making it last

Some of you may remember me, I frequented these boards several months ago when I had my daughter- she is now 6 months old.  My issue is that I am still nursing, and am now pregnant again.  During my last pregnancy I was on Lovenox because of an MTHFR mutation.  I was told I she be on Lovenox or baby aspirin to sustain a pregnancy-  both are contraindicated for nursing I was told by my OB GYN.   So now I must decide wean my daughter cold turkey immediatly (which I have been told is not good to do) and start a medicine, or take my chances with trying for a sucessful pregnnacy with no meds.  Of course I want to have the best of both... but am torn, any thoughts?

When I weaned my firstborn I did NOT get engorged. I started pumping and gradually pumped less and less until I stopped pumping altogether.

Thanks ladies, I am going to see her Ped today to talk about it.  I have been told by several people not to wean cold turkey because it is likely to cause infection/abscesses in the bb's.  I am okay with weaning, just need to know the best way to do it to take the best care of both babies...  we'll see what the doctor says!

Congrats!  I would wean.  My doctor recommended replacing a feeding every week, but you might be able to do it every few days (at the time, my daughter was feeding like 8-9 times a day still).  Besides her adjusting to the formula, the other problem could be constipation.  Maybe call your pediatrcian and see the what they say.

6 months is a great length of time for breastfeeding. You may feel guilty but you'll be giving your daughter a little brother or sister, which is priceless!

Congrats, BTW!

it's your decision. personally, i'd go for sustaining the pregnancy and weaning your daughter cold turkey. sure, it might be hard work and you may have some teething problems...but that way you don't risk a life.
