smoking weed while pregnant?

Im 14 weeks, I smoked very heavily before I found out I was pregnant and quit immediately... come to find out a friend of mine who is 22weeks is still smoking... I tried convincing her to quit for the sake of her unborn but she claims it cannot harm the baby? Is this true? Anyone still smoking ?

It's also not proven that you will harm your baby by eating deli meats or soft cheeses but is it a risk your willing to take?  I am very pro medicinal marijuana too! However again medicinal and street marijuana are two completely different substances with completely different chemical make ups.

Its still false information if it isnt proven. When an medical journal says "may cause," this is not proven. This is heresay. Until it is undoubtedly proven, we should not be going by what a "study" states.

I am a huge advocate for the medical use of Marijuana. I have done countless researxh on the subject and the fact of the matter is there is not enough research stating Cannabis is harmful to an unborn child. Im not saying because there isnt that us women should carry on using it while pregnant. Im just saying there isnt enough info to support its potential harm.

There are NO PROVEN STUDIES stating that smoking Cannabis while pregnant causes unusualbrain development, or that it causes symptoms similar to FAS. Cannabis promotes neurogenesis, which means it encourages brain cell growth. Cigarettr smoking csn cause preterm labor, but there are NO STUDIES that show Cannabis use causes preterm labor.
The only proven study about Cannabis use during pregnancy is the Jamaica study, performed by Dr. Melanie Drehr, which I encourage everyone to look into.

Im not saying its right or wrong to use Cannabis while pregnant. But please dont put out false information about it. The fact of the matter is there are no proven studies regarding its potential harmfulness.

I am Canadian, if you live in Ontario they do not test your baby unless there is probable cause. If she lives in the US then for CPS purposes I would stop if I were her. It would kill me to get my baby taken away.

There are currently studies being conducted as to the safety and efficacy of medicinal marijuana for nausea in pregnant women. HOWEVER medicinal marijuana has little to no THC in it (the component that gets you high), THC is what is dangerous to the baby. Medicinal marijuana is altered for its medicinal properties its not the same as regular weed. So unless she has a prescription for medicinal marijuana and is getting it from a legal dispensary then she is doing more harm than good

Doctors would possibly prescribe medical marijuana in states where it is legalized, but medical is very different than what is sold on the street. In states where it is still illegal, and it is still illegal on a federal level no matter what, doctors will prescribe anti nausea medications like zofran that work just fine.

It's extremely dangerous. Please convince her to go to a doctor and seek medical attention and advice. There are plenty of studies that show the dangerous affects it has on babies both in and out of the womb

I can say that in Illinois they do test urine for illicit substances. Your doctor will nicely ask you to stop and if you don't comply they will test you again in a couple of months, if the levels are high enough they will contact child services. My good friend had her baby taken from her days after he was born and she spent seven months fighting to get him back. Its just not worth it. I was a heavy smoker for six years and I know it can be helpful but you can't know the damage it does to the fetus. Maybe women who have smoked have had "big healthy babies" but my mother smoked while pregnant and I have athsma and a congenital heart defect.

Women have posted on here about smoking weed during pregnancy. Not trying to be rude or disrespectful but they've posted on here where when the baby is born they drug test the baby so you both want to quit. I'm sure neither of you want cps involved.

She should stop, and now. There is research showing that marijuana use whole pregnant can effect brain development and cause features similar to those of fetal alcohol syndrome. It also puts the child at greater risk for asthma, and RAD as a child as well as increased the likelihood of low birth weight and preterm labor. If that doesn't convince her to stop when the baby is born (in most states) they do run a tox screen on the meconium and if anything comes up positive CPS will be involved and there is a good chance that child might be taken away for a period of time.

Everyone on here will say its bad for you..when in fact in other countries mothers who smoked weed tend to have bigger babies and carry full term. I know a girl who did all through out her pregnancy and her baby girl is just fine. Although i wouldnt smoke very much i think a little here and there is okay. Just my preference though!

I don't know what smoking weed will do but it can decrease oxygen when you smoke anything. Decrease oxygen isn't good for a developing fetus

There have not been enough studies to prove that it is harmful, but I do believe that it is. Smoking anything during pregnancy reduces the oxygen to the fetus.
