I think your doctor is a smoker. Forget that advice, quit now. At 6 w 4 d the baby is putting on a million cells a day. You don't want even one of those cells to be affected by your smoking!
Good luck, of course it is easier said than done. But I would not trust that doctor's advice after this.
no its proven that your baby would not at all be addicted to nicotine right now!!!.. by the sounds of it you would rather quit right away and i would agree and suggest you do so =).. you will be thankfull in the long run
I haven't heard about the baby being addicted to nicotine this early but my doctor also told me to wean off rather then to quit cold turkey. Being a regular long time smoker she said the effects of withdrawal and the stress of quitting cold turkey are worse for you and your baby then if you were to cut down before completely quitting
Nice justification. I'll bet other doctors would disagree strongly with that.
I don't believe anyone is trying to justify smoking while pregnant. She is simply stating what her doctor told her. Yes, doctors do disagree on any given subject. The origional poster is asking advice because she wants ti quit in a safe way for the baby. Many doctors will reccomend cutting down first to lessen the stress on the baby because the stress in the mom transfers to the baby, and too much can cause a miscarriage. This is not a justification to smokeing but simply a precautuonary measure.
I would say you know your limit to what you can handle, you have to be mentally prepared to quit, have good support around you and then go from there, i know there are moms who quit cold turkey and managed fine, i know couples who quit together and same thing, i also know moms who cut back then quit, they gave themselves a certain timeline and stuck to it... if you feel stong enough to quit cold turkey it is up to you, but either way the sooner the better! This is the best time to wuit if your gonna as you dont have any better motivation than now! Im very happy to hear that you have already talked to your Dr about it, as it shows you do want to quit... i hope you have success as you will feel so much better and not to mention save money in the long run, which can be out towards that little bean you got in ya! congrats on the pergnancy and good luck! you can do it!!!
If you quit cold turkey it will shock the baby's system and cause you to m/c. Slowly quit over a month. Your baby will be fine.
There are mixed reviews on the benefits of cold turkey vs cutting back... there are gonna be mixed answers in each, depending how much you smoke a day, how you handle not smoking and will power are very big factors in quitting...
like i said before its up to you as you know how to take it best... the fact is smoking is decreasing oxygen to your baby, when you quit it imediately increases and is better for you baby so debating which is more stressful on the baby is never ending thats why Drs have mixed answers on this...
some say quitting cold turkey also decreases the risk of miscarriage, premature birth, and other complications... and some say quitting COULD (not WILL) cause a MC due to stress of withdrawl... again its what you feel works best as only you know your body
