so sore

My nipples are so sore after breastfeedingit *****! It seems like something that would be normal but the lactation specialist seemed surprised when i had told her that it felt like my baby had pins bad needles in his mouth. He's a month and 5d but he was a month early and he didn't really latch until he was. 2w which would be 37w gestationally, but the nurses thought that's when he would get the hang of it

Yeah it does get easier and its not just you, baby eventually learns over time too. Like i said, i gave up at 4wks, on top of feeding a prem I also had a lot of health problems so my son was losing weight. But my friend persisted and she said once her babies tongue tie snapped it got so much better. So if you want to keep going I really encourage you, otherwise its not compulsory and all anyone wants is a healthy bub and a happy mum.

I've heard that you eventually get used to it but it's almost been 3w. How long should it take?

He has a small tongue tie (that attachment ay the bottom of tge tongue right?) and they noticed it at the hospital but said it wasn't big enough to be an issue bc he can stick his tongue outside of his mouth

Yes but that was in the hospital when he wasn't staying latched. He couldn't get the sucking down bc he was too tired. He did it right after birth but they said it was an adrenaline rush and didn't stay on for that long again until the 37w mark

Cold lettuce would probably do same thing, lol. When I was going through I would have accepted a  cold can of coke on them! Lol. A friend of mine was going through the same thing at the time and it turned out her baby had a tongue tie that hadnt been picked up. Has the lactation consultant watched baby feed?

I've tried lanolin cream as well as breastmilk. I try to let them air dry but if something touches them it just prolongs the pain. Especially if i pick up my baby and he squirms. He'll start out wide mouthed but gradually shrink or evenpull back, i can't continue when he does that. Would lettuce work too? Seems like it but maybe cabbage has some special healing powers lol

My son was born at 35wks too and we had no end of trouble breastfeeding. While I had good attachement he never opened his mouth wide enough and being prem meant it took a lot of energy for him to suck. It takes its toll on your body for sure. Have you tried creams, cold cabbage leaves, and the best advice I got - after each feed, rub some breast milk on them and let them air dry. I had to stop at 4wks because he wasn't thriving but I wish you all the best!
