Tattoo artists around here will not give you one if you are pregnant. They ask you up front.

My husband is a tattoo artist... its technically fine to get a tattoo while pregnant cuz the ink does not go into your blood stream.  It is best to just wait though because the stress and tension of the tattoo is not the best for you.

I just spoke with a very reputable tattoo shop on regards to this. He said they won't tattoo a pregnant woman or a nursing mom.

Its different not knowing you are pregnant and getting one, as opposed to knowing you are expecting, knowing the possible risks.... if its a tattoo you really want I'm sure waiting a few months won't matter. No tattoo shop that's reputable would ever tattoo a pregnant woman.

I'm planning on getting one a few months after the birth. Going to add the baby's birth date and time to the design. But not before. Why chance the safety of your baby for a tattoo?!

No.  any respectable tattoo shop will not tattoo a pregnant woman.  You should be asked to fill out a waiver and they ask if you are pregnant.

Its one thing if you don't know and get one, and hopefully all is well and you have no complications. But its another if you know you are pregnant and you get a tattoo and put the baby at risk when all you have to do it wait until the pregnancy is over.

I think it's best not to chance it.  If you know you are pregnant then you should wait.  I know sometimes you don't know but if you think you are its not worth the risk.

The ink doesn't enter your blood stream. The needle doesn't go that deep. I had one done in the beginning of my pregnancy not knowing I was preggo. My baby is healthy and my pregnancy has been healthy. I'm 18 weeks and was probably 10 weeks when I got the tattoo. I think as long as everything is clean and germ free it's ok. I got a small tattoo though so a larger one that would cause more shock to your body might cause complcations.

No, the ink and anything else on the needle can get into your blood stream!! Not to mention diseases you can catch. Don't get me wrong, I love tattoos, but every time you get one your putting yourself at risk.

I have heard, but am not sure on this 100% that they don't even want you getting tattooed when you are breast feeding, something about having affects on the milk?

It's not even safe to get one immediately after. You have to wait six months. I don't think any tattoo artist would risk it either

No. Some people will argue and say it is but really you should wait. When you get a tattoo there is risk of infection, and this is something you don't want when pregnant. Plus it puts a lot of stress on your body--pain and really you shouldn't put the baby through that. when you go to a parlor they will have you sign a consent form and one of the questions to check off will be asking if you are pregnant, they are not suppose to tattoo someone pregnant.
I have really been wanting more work done, but I am waiting it out, you wont be pregnant forever.
