Have any of you filed for unemployment during pregnancy and continued after delivery? Did it affect your eligibility BC you couldn't accept work right after the baby was due?

If you have insurence through your company just file for short turn dissability there are also some states one being California that offers state short term dissability you file right through the state and they pay you 60% of what you make for 4 weeks before delivery and any were from 6-12 weeks after I beieve it varies from state to state

I agree with Gordon. I messed up and mentioned my pregnancy now I cannot get benefits because by Dr orders I'm not allowed to work right now.

Then that I can not help with because I am doing this alone but have worked for 12yrs in the same field at the same place. I know when you file they expect you to actively look for employment. They randomly want proof that you are actively working if you do not have a return date.

What if there isn't a return date? Im working for the state of California on a limited term bases. So it was pretty much a position they offered for a year. So there is no return date at all. :/ I'm really not worried about money, but if I am getting laid off it would help to at least get gas money. My husband makes pretty good money but if I can get something it would be nice. So DONT MENTION PREFNANCY! LOL I GOT IT! THANKS GORDANBABY!!

Doesn't matter if you are on other benefits such as WIC, I was and still am...because as long as your reason for being laid off from your employer is "lack of work" your okay. For all they know, they are slow and don't have hours for you, but want you back when it picks up again.
My boss doesn't do paid maternity leave and wants me back as soon as I can return.  I wouldn't be able to survive without the pay I make, so laying me off was most reasonable outcome. Its still rough not making as much as I did regularly but its something better than nothing.

Just don't mention pregnancy......make sure you and your job agree to "lack of work" (lack of hours...etc...) with a return date. When yu fill out the application, check off lack of work. They will want a statement from your employer confirming that u have a return date.

I think if you're on other state benefits then they can find out. Not 100% sure though.

That helps!! Thanks! I will also be getting laid off at the end of the month and I'll be 32 weeks by then. So I take it as early maternity leave. I just wanted to make sure they don't have means of finding out I'm pregnant or have delievered. They wouldn't find out?

I collect unemployment....I was laid off, due to lack of work. DO NOT tell them that you are pregnant or you will not be able to collect. I will continue to collect after the baby is born, But I also have a return date to work (meaning I still have my job when I decide to go back) so they aren't pushing me to look for work or prove that im out applying. If you are currently employed and can maybe talk to your employer about possibly coming back when your ready (I discussed three months after baby was born), then if you have a return date, that your employer can confirm, then they wont hawk you.
