Everyone is different. I was able to get a positive test when I was only a week and a half late, I know some people who had to wait 3 weeks before it would show positive

Well honestly, that depends. I'm in the same boat you're in with wondering when to take a test. Some advice that was given to me was to take the test about 2-3 weeks after your missed period. But everyone is different, so it just depends on your body. If you take a test and it's negative, try to test again in a week or so. Good luck!! :)
