I have used all different kinds of make up spending $50+ more on a bottle to also buying very cheap stuff. I still do buy some stuff that is more expensive just because I have been using it forever but I would highly recommend the brand ELF. Order off there website they always have awesome deals and are extremely reasonably priced. As for the cracking skin I would suggest applying a primer on your face. It does feel oily at first but once your foundation is on it no longer feels that way. I naturally have oily skin and I never wear any makeup without primer. ELF has my favorite kind.
