In my experience braxton hicks are nothing like real contractions, bh dont hurt, but real contractions do and they r hard to explain what they really r like, but u will defiantly no when u do have them.

Clysta is correct on all points. Orgasms are uterine contractions and BH can begin as early as 6 weeks. Lots of discharge is normal in the third trimester; many women have to wear panty liners.

A true contraction is intense. For some women they're not painful but for the majority they are. You usually cannot walk or talk through a true contraction but have to focus on breathing.

For me I could just tell because the contractions were agony. Not to mention I just had a feeling it was labour. Braxton Hicks can start as early as the first trimester. The uterus contracts even when not pregnant (an orgasm is technically a contraction) it's just bit usually noticed until something is in it. An increase in discharge can be normal, but it could also be your water. How far along are you, and are you having any leaking when you're lying down? If it's discharge it won't be constant, but if it's your water it will be continuous.
