I'm so sorry about your babies coming so early. I can tell you this, please if you can breast feed or express your breast milk for the sake of your baby because not only will it help in more ways than your formula in development but also it give them help with their immune systems.  I know the sadness of not being able to bring your baby home and how I cried like a baby for days but made sure I visited the nicu everyday I only missed one day due to the fourth of july that my husband asked for a rest. My story is not as bad as yours but I can truely relate to what you're going through a bit. I too had a premature baby but he came at 30 weeks weighing in at 3lb 4oz and was in the nicu for 1 month discharge weight was 4lbs. he had broken my water on my 27th week and I was in the hospital for 3 weeks on bed rest and on antibiotics to prevent infection but my other three kids needed their mom and I signed myself out like a fool which I regret now. and on father's day last year the day after I went against medical advise, my cord began to come out of my vagina and the only thing that saved him was that he was transverse. had he not been, he would have crushed the cord and died from lack of oxygen. I was rushed to the hospital and underwent an emergency c section and since I was given steroids during my 3 week stay he was able to breathe on his own and didnt suffer anything major except for an eye infection. It wasnt until I got home that a month later he was hospitalized for RSV which is nothing but a cold but can kill your premie since they have no real immune system because of early birth. This happened 3 times in the first year of his birth and it does get better but it's hard the first two years. He turns two June 18 08. From the first time that he came home he had to be put on a apnea monitor because he would forget to breathe at times and the machine would scream loudly so that we can make sure the baby is ok. At the same time he had to see an eye and lung specialist for at least a year. He now has asthma and should improve in time.

hi my millie was born 27 weeks 5 days on 29/01/08 1 pound 10 ounces due to severe pre eclampsia. we just got her home on 28 april after 80 days in hospital she is on home o2 and is doing well. millie had 6 blood transfusions during her stay in hospital they say it is very common for prems to need platelets because they are not fully matured they are slow at making blood, when millie got near my due date her body seemed to start working for itself, apart from having chronic lung disease she is doing well. good luck with your little one i hope everything goes well! x x x
