i too had a preemie baby boy...just recently 6 months ago now!
it and has been the hardest thing i have ever experienced in my entire life...its not easy...i cant promise your grandson is going to be allright because every baby is different. My son was born at 24 weeks he weighed 1 lbs 7 oz. and was on the vent since birth for 4 weeks, than he went on the cpap for couple days and than to cannula, he came home on oxygen and a monitor he dint have apena which was good...he was in the NICU for 111 days and he also had trouble with blood pressure, some infections, laser eye surgery, and now he has a hearnia that needs to be repaired...but in all he did good being how early he was...he came home one day before his due date at 5 lbs 8 oz..now its been 3 1/2 months that hes been home and hes a whopping 14 lbs!!!
its amazing and he came off oxygen after only 1  1/2 he was home! so now we have been wire free..which is great!!
just hang in there its going to be a bumpy ride...just believe and pray and hope for the best!!!
Like momof2with1onway...said miracles do happen...and my son is living proof!!

Hugs!!

they can mean a numerous of things i too had my son at 25wks he weighed 1lb 9oz. has he had to be on a ventalator since birth of just oxygen????  my son stayed on oxygen for about 2 1/2 months then he came off but need a blood transfusion which is normal for a lot of premature babies thats when i really started having problems his blood pressure wouldn't stay up his heartrate kept dropping and he had to go back on oxygen!!!! depending on what his stats were at birth is usually what they go by. was he breathing on his own? how was his color? ect. the best way to find out is to ask the nurse or the doc cause its so hard to know for sure with preemie babies!!! i wish you all the luck in the world.
P.S i thought i would share this with you. i had a friend that had her baby at 27 wks and by a greater power he only stayed for 3wks and was sent home and is doing excellent now!!! he is 9 months old today!!!!! miricles can definately happen so just hang in there!!!
