Increase in PSA in short time ?

Hi
I am 46 years old and always end up needing to get up twice or three times each night to urinate for the last few years. My father got postate cancer when he was about 56 years old.
In Feburary 2010 my PSA was 1.0.  In Feburary 2011 my PSA was 0.65. In August 2011 it was 1.68. My doctor thought it might be a faulty test so I got another test a month later in September 2011 and my PSA was 1.77
I had a DRE about 18 months age and it was normal.
My question: Would an increase in PSA of 1.12 over 7 months need further investigation and if so what?
Regards.
Tommy

Hey Tommy!

Your PSA is well within the normal limits. Slight increase in PSA (more or less within the normal range) may be seen with benign conditions such as infections, inflammations as well; and should not be a cause for worry and would not require further testing.
Hope this information helps.

Take care!
