Thank you for your question. A PSA rise of 8-9 fold over a 6 month period should be a concern. PSA levels and their interpretation should be based a host of factors; age, family history, digital rectal examination findings, other urologic symptoms, urinary frequency, etc. etc.

Have you had primary treatment for prostate cancer? This type of rise would indicate metastatic disease. If this was discovered over routine followup, and you remain symptomless, a retest of your PSA is warranted.

Thank you for your question and good luck.

Sincerely,

Ashutosh (Ash) K. Tewari, MD

Hi Joe,  My name is Rob and I am learning more about this prostate stuff than I ever would have intended .  Your raise doesn't sound normal to me and you should definitely have a professional check you out.   It can rise from a lot of factors, not necessarily cancer.
Ask the Urologist on this forum for some information.
best wishes
