high PSA 1800

Hi,

My father is a 76 years old healthy and very active Indian citizen.Only health condition he has so far is high BP for which he takes a tablet PRASSOPRESS everyday.  For the last 3months he is having pain near his hips and thighs. He says for many years his urine goes narrow and sometimes needs a little bit strain to start and often feels like not finished when he passes urine.Last week he went to check his PSA and the result came 1800. We are planning to see a urologist next week. Please help me with possible reasons , prognosis, treatment, life expectancy and quality of life. Our family is under so much stress after we got the results. Hoping to get a detailed reply as soon as possible.
Thanks,
ambj .

Thanks Doctor, We immediately had appointments , tc99 bone scan and other ulra sounds and found out that he has PC with disseminated bone metastasis. The next day my dad had severe leg pain and he had Orchiectomy done on 01-23-2012.Also doctor prescribed Caluron 50mg tablet to continue.still he has discomfort but legpain came down. Please advise if thereanything else we can do.and what is the expected prognosis at this stage.
thanks,
ambj.

Hey Ambj!

A PSA level of 1800 ng/ml is exceedingly high and would require further testing to consider a malignancy of the prostate gland. I would suggest discussing the management plan in detail with the treating urologist after a definite diagnosis is made.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
