back pain

I am a 58 yr old male with scoliosis and degenerative disc disease. I was in moderate pain in my lower back most of the time. Lately I am experiencing severe pain, sometime shooting out in one of four directions. Out of one side or the other or down one leg or the other, I never know where until it strikes, but always severe pain. Could an enlarged prostate (I have all the classic television symptoms) be putting pressure on my lower back caustng this pain. I am on Soc Sec Disability so money is a concern.

Hello Sir,

It is likely from your history of traumatic accident and neuropathic symptoms that your back pain is related to that. A proper evaluation of the soft tissue structures seems like its in order, either way this is not a urological problem, although it is back pain. A general medical doctor, neurologist, neurosurgeon or orthopedic surgeon would be qualified to evaluate you, however an MRI would be an appropriate place to start to rule out soft tissue injuries.

Thanks!

Hello Sir,

With your previous history of degenerative disk disease and scoliosis, there is a high probability that your lower back pain is of a lower back anatomic dysfunction. There is always the possibility of prostate metastasis, therefore you should be evaluated either by your personal physician or a urologist, starting with a blood PSA level, and a digital rectal examination. After you have the findings of those tests, you can determine whether the prostate could be the source of your back pain. Otherwise consultation with a neurologist could be in order, with back pain radiating to the lower extremities. BPH is another part of the differential (benign prostatic hypertrophy), that can be diagnosed with a biopsy as well.

Thanks!

Hi Doctor,

I am a 25 yr old male suffering from back pain since last two years and i feel the pain from the lesion T9-L2 dermatomes.. The pain is being distributed to my buttocks as well. And i don't feel any pain in legs or somewhere else. Also when i am sleeping, i am not feeling pain at all. The pain is duing the day only when we work or do something..I suspect, the pain is because of sudden jolt happened two years back in a sudden fall from my bike. Please assist me, whether proper exercise is the only solution or i must to go ahead with MRI for  further test as i my X-ray  says no collusion or damage to my vertebrae section.

Thanks in advance for your reply..
