someone please put my mind at ease

Just went to urologist last week for my check-up. Last years psa was .7. When they did it this time it was 17!!! Doctor said it had to be a mistake and would send my blood to the lab. He told me not to worry. It came back 4.6. I'm 42 y/o white reasonably healthy guy and now he wants to due a biopsy. I don't know what to worry about first. The biopsy or the results? I'm too young for this stuff. I have three kids (two in diapers) and would like to be here for them as long as possible. Doctor also said that psa could be related to constant inflamation of prostate or prostatitus which i have been diagnosed in the past. He says theres about a 30% chance i have cancer. I made appointment for biopsy January 18th. Should i get it done? How painful is it? I'm seriously stressed out!!!

I'm having prostate problems recently.  I have a scheduled appointment with a urologist , 02/22/11
in June of 2010 my PSA count was 1.92
In Jan. of 2011 I started having a slow urine stream so I went to my doctor.  They did a psa test.  it was 3.01
I'm now starting to be concerned.
Since Jan. testing I started taking Saw Palmetto.
Question about the Saw Palmetto.  I noticed that my sperm has turned yellow.  Has anyone else had that occur after taking Saw Palmetto?
I'm going to try the pumpkin Seed oil immediately.

First you should change your nickname, why should not be happy at 42?. Always keep your thinking positive.
I am having prostate cancer since last 15 months and my PSA was 29.94 and now it has come down to 0.002. Most likely you are not having prostate CA and you will definitely going to see your children grow before your eyes. Worst come worst even if you are having prostate CA at this PSA level it is definitely curable. Remember, "Cancer is curable with right treatment at the right time" and thanks to PSA testing most of the time Prostate CA is diagnosed at early stages which is the right time.Even if you are diagnosed with prostate CA it is not death warrant.

You must get your biopsy done because it will clear all doubts and also clear the way for right treatment. Biopsy is not a very painful procedure though it is very cumbersome. After Biopsy you may see blood in your urine or stool but never mind, it will go away. Take plenty of water and within few hours it will clear your urine.

Maintain your calm and everything will be alright.

claytex,

Asked my doctor to retest my psa one more time before the biopsy on 1/18/11. His office just called and cancelled the biopsy. My psa was 1.39. He wants to see me in six months. Thanks again for your advice.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into the pumpkin seed oil. I'm getting my psa checked again today to see if there is any change. If it's still high I'm getting a biopsy on 1/18/11. I'll keep you posted. Thanks!

Hi there,
I had personal experience with prostates , and my reading went up at high as 5.7 ( with toilet frequency of about 20 times in 24 hours )before i got it under control and down to 3.1 the last time i did a test a good while ago,,
The CURE was very simple.
PUMPKIN SEED OIL
In 1 month i had everything back to normal.
I was taking 1 to 1.5 table spoons a day and first thing in the morning on empty stomach after washing my face and having couple of mouthfulls of water.
BUT along side of that , i had changed my diet ,
Very very  little meats ( meat,, chicken and fish) , max 150 to 200 grams a week total,, and NO milk and dairy ,,, as they are the worst thing u can have for prostates .
My real advise i to look into MACROBIOTICS for a more serious change of diet ,, which is what i study and follow now for the last few months , as strict macrobiotics CAN (to say the least ) CURE almost all cancers .
wish u the best of luck and health

Dear claytex,

Thanks for the reply and all the info. I did some more research and I feel a little better. If need be I will talk to my doctor about Proton radiation. My doctor does not use anesthesia to knock me out so I requested some valium to take the edge off. I guess I'll just grin and bare it. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for everything. I really do appreciate it....nothappy42

Dear Not Happy:  I would have the biopsy.  If you do have prostate cancer you want to catch it as soon as possible.. Especially in the early stages it is very treatable. I had prostate cancer in 2005 and had Proton Radiation treatments for it and am fine now.. Its like I was never sick.  As for the biopsy... its not real comfortable.  The doctor who did mine did not put me out  and it wasnt a lot of fun..laffin...  I later found out that most doctors put their patients under anesthesia to do the biopsy.  I would ask the doctor to put me under anesthesia if I were you.  Its not a big deal but the procedure itself can be some what painful.  Afterwards you dont really notice anything..... You probably dont have cancer...I can tell you that the key to detecting it is an increase in the PSA from one test to the next.  My PSA was 4.5  when my cancer was discovered.  It had moved up from 2.5 to 4.5 over a period of about 18 months... Its no real biggie even if you have it.... hopefully you dont have it.. If you do have it, I would most certainly suggest Proton Radiation as treatments as opposed to other treatments .. It (proton radiaton) has a 90 % cure rate and little to no side effects .  Conventional radiation and other treatments have some side effects...But back to your questions...yes Id get it done ..most especially at your age and with the children...I would also want to be under anesthesia for the proceedure...and there is no need to be stressed out.. every thing will work out. Most prostate cancer is very cureable...the only thing.. you want to be sure your satified with the type treatment you get if you do have it... dont just take your doctors suggestions... check out all of the treatments yourself...most doctors recommend the type treatment that they are trained to do ..which may or may not be the best treatment for you... like I said some of the side effects of some of the treatments are not good...thats the reason I chose Proton Radiaton..no side efffects.... it was like I was on a vacation... I hope you dont have prostate cancer but if you do and would like more  info on Proton treatments feel free to send me a message and I will share and of my experiences with you.... Best of Luck....Claytex
