Thank you for the reply, I have been seeing a doctor for this, I have been very concerned because I have not been feeling well and have been very sick and tired for the past 7 months and also deal with alot of abdominal pain. I have been on Hydrocodone and have tried steroids. Steroids seem to have helped the pain. But do not know why I am in this pain. We can not find answers for the spleen enlargement, have seen a Rhematologist and he has run test with no results. Asked my regular doctor for a referal to a hematologist and he replied with " No one will be able to figure it out, I could send you to specialist after specialist and no one will be able to help you" He thinks it is all in my head and that I need to take antidepressants and I will feel better. I think I am depressed of course I am in pain and sick all the time. So he will not send me to a hematologist and will not refill my pain medication. I just want help. And the Ct scan shows the enlarged spleen as well as lesions on my spleen, right kidney and ovarie. to small to characterize. Am I crazy? What should I do. I do have endometriosis, and had surgery to remove and patch, scar tissue. They put me on depro provera and it seemed to make me very ill. So I decided not to take that anymore. I had a Angiodema attack 3 months ago out of the blue, never had problems with swelling before or allergies. My throat just closed up on me as well as my lip, tongue and tonsills. Within 10 minutes, very scary... What is going on with me..? I don't think it is all in my head?
All my blood tests, show up fine. Besides some Reactive lymphocytes in the blood work.? And when I am sick and get blood work done my white blood count is very low.? I feel feverish all the time with a slight fever. If you have any answers for me please help?
Hi
One study reported that in healthy subjects spleen longitudinal diameter ranged from 8 to 11 cm (median, 9.5 cm) and spleen volume from 60 to 200 mL (median, 140 mL). (Ref http://bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org/cgi/reprint/99/11/4228.pdf)
There are lots of causes of an increased spleen size: infections such as malaria, cardiac conditions, metabolic disorders such as amyloidosis, Gauche’s disease, liver disease or even cancers.
Enlarged spleen is more prone to trauma and rupture; also prolonged enlargement can lead to damage to the spleen by decreasing it's blood supply. There is also a risk of the worsening of the underlying disease process.
Enlarged spleen should be investigated immediately to find out cause and to start correct treatment.
Take care and do write in if you need more information.
