Hi,
How are you? The majority of hereditary breast cancers can be accounted for by inherited mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2. This means that if his mother was positive for the gene, then he can also be tested together with other family members to see if they also have the mutation. However, a positive test result provides information only about a person’s risk of developing cancer. It cannot tell whether an individual will actually develop cancer or when. But with his present symptoms, it would be better if he have this evaluated further by his doctors. Take care and best regards.
I forgot to also add that his mother has had recurrent breast cancer and was positive for the BRCA-1 gene and he has not been tested for it due to insurance issues...I am not sure if that is signifiant
