Having over-used nasal decongestant sprays for about a year, I contracted the PND syndrom, for about 4 months not being able to sleep at nights through the choking sensation this condition brings;you can't survive too long without sleep. The symptom only arose in my right side nasal cavity thank God, to have both cavities affected would have been totally unbearable. The lining of this cavity had been burned away with the nasal sprays over time causing the pnd, the constant drip of mucous then set off the lymph node in my throat on that side, causing it to swell and make swallowing sometimes impossible, and at best awkward, this being the infamous "lump" you guys talk about, so I searched for a cure.I think I found it!!
A simple system of "nasal cavity irrigation" seems to have been my saviour, the cure doesn't happen overnight, but by pumping this saline solution through my nose, twice a day, using only the prescribed powders, seems to be working. The drip has all but disappeared, and I can now sleep through the nights without interruption, what a wonderful sensation that is! I bought the equipent through ebay and it is known as
"NeilMed Sinus Rinse Starter Kit For Nasal Irrigation".It costs only a few pounds and you get 15 sachets of powder to dissolve in the kit.I soon found relief and bought a boxful of sachets (120) to follow up with. I still partake, since I want to be sure I've seen the back of this illness, and anyways, my sense of smell has doubled!!To start with, the sensation of pumping tepid solution up one nostril only for it to discharge thgrough the other feels a little uncomfortable, but people, you soon get used to this, and quite soon the sensation becomes a relief. Please try it and be sure to follow the instructions on the little bokklet you also get.
Hope this helps some of you fellow sufferers.
Hi,
How are you? Are there other symptoms present? With post nasal drip, it is important to determine the underlying cause for proper management. Increased secretions could be due to colds and flu, allergies, cold temperatures, bright lights, certain foods/spices, hormonal changes, certain medications, and structural abnormalities such as deviated or irregular nasal septum. Indeed, swallowing problems may result in accumulation of solids or liquids in the throat that may complicate or feel like post-nasal drip. When the nerves and muscles in the mouth, throat, and esophagus are not interacting properly, overflow secretions can spill into the voice box (larynx) and breathing passages (trachea and bronchi), causing hoarseness, throat clearing, or coughing. If this is the case, it is best that you check with your ENT doctor for proper evaluation. Additional diagnostic tests, laboratory, endoscopic and x-ray studies may be indicated. Take care and do keep us posted.
