Sever leg pain at night only

Hi, I sometimes have severe leg pain at night that radiates from the back of my knees. I have always been told it is growing pains but I am 21 and I do not believe I am still growing. I notice this pain is more intense on days I have been on my feet or walking for prolonged periods of time. I usually put a heating pad or biofeeze to ease the pain. Any suggestions as to what this could be?

Talk to a board certified MD or DO in Sleep Disorders, in your area.   Sounds like potential Periodic Leg Movement Disorder since it occurs at night.

Google    "accredited Sleep Lab" + the name of the closest town or city.

I have worked with folks with PLMD for years and have it myself.   The Physician will ask you a lot of qualifying questions.  If in Little Rock AR, area talk to Dr Paul E Wiley, he specializes in it.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
The pain could be due to spondylitis of lumbar or lumbo-sacral vertebrae causing pinched nerves. It could also be due to lactic acid build up in muscles. Once you apply heat the blood vessels dilate and lactic acid disperses. Do discuss this with your doctor.
Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

feel the back of knees for soft movable lump, or if you have see if it can be biopsied for lipomas the can press on nerves and cause leg pain.  I had pains in my inner thighs and around my knees that were so severe I remember lying in bed crying and putting a pillow between my legs. I was told that it was growing pains but as I got older I felt pain until it progressed after surgery. I am now in my 40's and searching for many years I found the cause.it was Dercum's Disease type III that occurs in non obese person's. does you fat hurt, or if you feel nodules beneath skin along with soft lumps it may be the cause if not then it's something else goodluck . I hope and pray this is not the cause, because there is know treatment or cure. exhaust all other options.
