So many symptoms.. Help?

I have symptoms that are most likely neurological, but all the tests are going so slow.. Only ekg and blood test has been taken and I´m not that good with patience now days.

My sense of smell hasn´t worked in 5 years. Mostly it´s gone completely but some times it works choosing what it wants to smell and some times it smells "wrong" smells. I also have lost my sense of taste couple of times for a moment.

My legsh, back, hands and some times even parts of my face go numb but most times they still work normaly. I also feel weird pains that have no reasons like feeling of iron nail going through my finger when there is nothing wrong.

One day I was cooking and I had to search every ingredient even thou i knew they were exactly where I had put them. I just couldn´t "see them" and I couldn´t see any difference between oil, salad tressing and soy sauce bottles.

I have only once lost power in my muscles and it was my left hand. I have felt some times that my legs don´t seem to keep up in "harder" moves that used to be routine for me in martial arts.

My wife says I move a lot in sleep and my moods swing and concentration seems to be out of control. So my memory is pretty bad with some problems in realizing what I just have said and what I have thought.

Ask if you need more information. Any help is much appreciated! Hopefullywell be hearing soon

Hi,
How are you? Your symptoms highly suggest a neurologic cause. To determine the definite diagnosis, your medical history and the results of the tests and ekg are essential. Loss of smell or anosmia may be due to temporary or permanent irritation, or destruction of the mucus membranes lining the inside of the nose; obstruction of the nasal passages, and damage to the brain or nerves. Do keep us posted with the test results. Take care and best regards.

Hi, and thanks for your answer.
Right now I am quite fine except for being tired.. Part of my left hand is numb and I am very bored even thou I just woke up. But that´s normal for me.

I should get the results of my blood tests and ekg some time at this week. But I´m quite sure they are normal like they were about a year ago. Anyway I´ll post the results as soon as I have them.

I lost my sense of smell without any visible reason.. I wasn´t sick or anything and first I thought it would come back so I didn´t worry about it.

My medical history is pretty boring except that I have flexible joints. Also Tietzen syndrome that is symptomless right now and very mild slipped disc in lower back. These should not cause any symptoms right now.

Oh.. Almost forgot I am 22 years old.. And male if some one didn´t realize that from my previous post..

I´ve been trying to find people or diseases having same symptoms as me but at least in the net it seems there is nothing with all or even with most of my symptoms.

I also put same post on the neurological forum with a bit more more refined detailing about the symptoms.

Hopefully I remembered to write everything I meant to :)

Now I have to wait for the test results even longer than they first said. I moved some time ago so they don´t have all of my papers and one of the blood tests isn´t ready.. Doctor calls me at first of December so until then nothing happens..

I hate to wait and this affects my every day life in a way or another so I am a bit annoyed.. Mostly bored but also annoyed. I think the swain flu vaccinations that are going on here are slowing down everything else in local medical centers..

Hello,
I know it is hard to be in the dark and to wait a few more days. But just be patient and we will know when the results are out. For the mean time, relax and try to divert your attention to other things. Take care and have a great Thanksgiving.

I finally got my results and they are just like I thought. Ekg and all blood tests were normal.

My doctor is going through my old medical papers that just got here.
She said she will call again some time in this week to talk what´s next.

I don´t normally wish that doctor would find something wrong in me but this time I
really hope something shows up in the next tests. I have the symptoms anyway
so then at least I would´t have to be completely clueless what causes them.

Hi,
It is good that the EKG and blood tests were normal. It is  not that you wish that your doctor finds something wrong. I do understand that. But it is better to be proactive with our health than doing nothing at all. Do keep us posted. Take care.

So my doctor didn´t call me last week and my condition just keeps going worse. I did call them and reserved call time for Thursday so she have to call me if she hasn´t called till then.

Here´s some of my new symptoms. My left leg and hand were shaking weirdly. My right leg ( knee) gave way while I was walking but I didn´t fall over/tumble down. I think everything looks a bit darker than before and my ears hear this "tinnitus" like bad connected speaker. Just constant "iiiiiii". Sometimes my head feels heavy and like it was too full. When that happens my back is numb around the spine and my head feel slow/stupid/half-dead.

I don´t always feel if I am hungry or full so I started to eat same way every day to keep it in control. But now I can´t estimate things like how much food to make or to take on my plate. I don´t always realize how much I have eaten and cause the stomach doesn´t feel full I easily eat more even when i think i should stop.

My memory is bad.. Time lines are messed up and most of my memories don´t even feel real. Much more like a dream. Also it´s hard to remember to do my chores.

Like you see I seem to have lost most of my self-discipline. Even now I was meant to sleep but here I am writing even thou I took somnor 10mg over 2h ago to help me sleep.I am still awake but my mind is very much scattered. Thinking too much and too little.

I have no idea what I have written there, but I hope it helps.

But any way.. Hopefully doctor calls me soon cause this needs to be diagnosed. I don´t wanna see what are the next symptoms..  Anyone? Everyone? What is wrong with me?

And thanks to Rowena for thous cheering answers/posts.

The doctor still didn´t call and I was told by one of their nurses that I should call to the chief doctor and complain. She thinks my symptoms need to be observed and diagnosed cause it could very well be something bad like a tumor. She thinks that I should get better treatment and she even gave me the number. But I have to say she hasn´t been on my case and basis her opinion mostly on hearsay and what she has seen.

Now I don´t know should I reserve another appointment with my doctor who did treat me well at the beginning but seems to have forgotten me. Or should I take the advice of that worried nurse and call to the chief doctor to get better treatment.

I will call someone on Monday but who? Any advices?
Should I try my doctor once more or go over her head?

Hi,
How are you?  Call your doctor once again for clarification. It is better that you ask her directly why she has not been calling than doing something drastic like going to the head. There may be a good reason. Hang in there. And do keep us posted.

Hi,
I can´t call my doctor directly and ask her and thats a part of the problem. I can call and reserve an appointment or another call time but I don´t want to wait again just to test if she calls this time. And I´m not gonna wait for another couple of months just to get in the same point I am now. Though I don´t want to blame her about it either. I know there is a rush and they just made repairs in part of the medical center.

Maybe if I get an appointment in reasonable time that could reassure me. But if I still have to wait for weeks cause their schedule is full of mild fever, flu and sick leave patients that are more important than I am. Then chief doctor will receive a call.

Thanks again.

I did get her to call me and she put me in the waiting line for neurology. Didn´t have to go over her head. Just needed to make sure they knew I was ready to do that. She didn´t seem to know anything about whats going on so I am glad she did sends me to specialist.

Now I have to wait and see how acute they think I am. Depending on what they think I have to wait something between one week to six months. Hopefully they take me in soon. Though now knowing my doctor she probably does not give them enough information and I end up all the way behind the least urgent line.

If I have to go in waiting line for months I guess I still have few options. I could wait (I wont) or try to get them move me up in line. And then I also could go for private and pay my *** off.. At least private doctor would take me in right a way.

The loss of feeling in the hands and feet sounds like something a friend of the family has. I believe it is rare. I don't know a lot about it or if it has other symptoms, but I know that he will randomly lose feeling in the hands and feet, which causes him to turn his ankles a lot, or he may burn his hand and not know it. He won't feel the pain till his feeling comes back.
I could contact him and ask him the name of his disorder and let you know, so maybe you can ask your doctor to check you for it.

Have you ever been bitten by a tick, I see you have a huge waiting line and live in UK this is what we will be experiencing before long no doubt here we used to be able to get a diagnosis quickly I fear its going to change soon, How is your sugar level is that within range as Daibetes can cause some of the symptoms .Good Luck

My doctor really turned out to be incompetent.. She said she put me on neurology but she did nothing. I think she just decided to forget me completely. So I did call to the chief doctor and hopefully something starts to happen.

Yesterday I was having trouble eating cause my hands were shaking and they were quite hard to control. I never thought it would be so hard to but fork in your mouth.

My sugar level is normal and I haven´t been bitten by a tick in few years and the time I was bitten a doctor took it out and examined the bite.We (Finland) used to be on top of health care (especially in "free" health care) but now we are probably only in the top 30 or so.. Depending on what list is most reliable on ones opinion.

Kyndel I would appreciate if you could find out the name of that disorder. Although I have so many symptoms that if the disorder doesn´t have any other symptoms it doesn´t cover much.. Of course I could have more than one disorder/sickness to cause my symptoms so it could be useful to know as much as possible about different disorders.

Thanks to both of you for posting!

I think I have to go for private doctor cause this just keeps getting worse.

I will call to the health center tomorrow and find out what is going on. If they are still doing nothing and give empty promises I will reserve appointment at private clinic.

I seem to get numbness on back of my head and neck daily and weird headache that last only seconds. The ache is always on small area but the place it is  chances. Also I feel some times like the "back part" of my brain would be "sleeping".

I was bitten by a tick in England 20 years ago and have been investigating Lyme disease, you can stilol have it , I suggest you at least check it out ...

Ok. I try to get that too checked if they haven´t done it yet.

I met another doctor at the health center and she gave me the same old promises and I am not gonna wait and find out if she does what she says cause I can´t just keep on waiting. The chief doctor who I did call and complain is enjoying his holidays.. Good for him. Not that good for me.

So now I do have time for private neurology. And even that 10 days I still have to wait feels like a long time. I probably should relax now that I know someone is going to see what is wrong with me.

I think the neurological thing is now affecting more on my mental side too. Of course it could just be a side effect caused by possible stress. But its weird cause I don´t seem to know my self that well anymore. My feelings are same time all over the place and also numb.

Some times I am not sure what is dream and what is reality. Though my dreams are pretty realistic (no flying or anything). That makes it even harder than before to know what I have and what I haven´t done.

Also I don´t trust anyone.. I don´t think everyone or even that someone is out to get me. I just think everything anyone does has some selfish meaning behind it. I´m also starting to do things that selfish way myself. I am good in reading/sensing people but now I feel like most of them just lie. I do think most of them believe what they say, but it doesn´t make it true. Or in the best case it is true but it is colored in their mind and the whole truth is much more than one mans view of it. Everyone keeps looking things blindly and lie them selfs. Maybe I am just one of the fools who don´t realize anything even when it bites in my ***.

Old friend of mine seems self destructive. Wouldn´t be a surprise if that idiot end his days but somehow I really don´t care at all. No offence to anyone who has lost close ones (I have too) but if you ask me killing your self is the most stupid way to go. I am feeling very antisocial at the moment so others don´t matter that much.He is adult so he should solve his own problems.

Year ago I was friendly people person and now I just cuoldn´t care less. I guess I´m just bored of everyone.. And hopefully my rant didn´t make me sound too idiotic. It was meant to inform how my way of thinking has changed and not to offend anyone.

Happy new year.. Or something..

Now I have much better feeling mentally even though nothing has changed.
Six days until I meet the neurology..

Yesterday was another bad day physically but now I am feeling quite good.

I was thinking that I would go back in to martial arts. I have several years of experience but it has been almost 3 years since I had to take a brake from it. This time I chose muay thai (thai boxing) cause they don´t practice joint manipulation. That I think would be better for my nervous system even though I do like grappling.

The thing that I´d like to know is if I do have some kind of neurological disorder or something similar. How bad is it if I take hits in my head? Muay thai is very physical and tough combat sport. There will surely be hits and kicks that are aimed for my head. Of course I do my best to avoid and block them but what are the risks in different neurological disorders? If there even is any extra risks?

So neurological disorders and martial arts/getting hit?

Hi again,
Happy New Year to you too. I'm sorry to hear about you waiting again in the center. It is good that you have already booked with a private neurologist. I would not recommend that you get involve with Muay Thai at this point until we know what could be the cause of your symptoms. Trauma to the head may result to concussion and also may lead to neurological deficits. Of course, this depends on the force involved. Take care and keep us posted with your appointment.

Finally they did something right and I got an appointment to neurologist in my areas main hospital and it is two days earlier than the private. So I canceled the private doctors time. At least now I don´t have to wait in that disappointing health center anymore.

Hi Rowena. Thanks again for your post.
So like I thought head traumas should be avoided. It is always possible to get hit on the head even in practices so I wait until I know what causes my symptoms before I even think about martial arts.

The neurology time got pushed by a week but now the first appointment is done. I am not sure if I made my symptoms clear enough cause I seemed to forget quite a bit about how this have affected me in last months and I didn´t know how to explain some things.

Anyway the neurologist thinks that she wont find anything wrong in me but she still decided to look into it. I felt like she was against me all the time during the appointment. Like she would´t believe a word I said. It probably was just a uncomfortable feeling from the examination or something.

They already took some blood tests (Lymen and few others). They will also do some kind of memory test and MRI on head and spine. I didn´t get reserved times for them yet so I don´t know when they are. Memory test thing probably very soon but MRI could take few months.

I am glad that they do look into it. But right now all I have learned is that they probably don´t find anything cause my symptoms aren´t pointing to anything specific. Well I don´t really care what is causing them but I do wanna get rid of the most annoying and limiting symptoms. If it is neurological then it is. If it´s something else like mental problem then it is. It´s all the same for me as long as I find a way to make it better or at least learn how to handle some of the symptoms.

Hi,
Non-specific symptoms can really be tough but with the result of the diagnostic tests, it  would be easier to determine if there is any cause for concern. It would also help to write any symptoms you feel and to bring it with you on your next appointment so that you will not miss a thing. All the best!
