menstrual hemmoraging

I am a 20 year old female suffering with chronic menstrual bleeding over past six years and anemia.Have hemmoraged and required transfusions twice.  Birth control pills do not work to stop the bleeding at this time I am  taking two seasonale pills daily and estrogen  to try to control bleeding, but  I have been bleeding for a month now. Hematologist has done tests to rule out vonwildebrands disease and other bleeding disorders, all sonograms show no gynecological problems., Have had multiple tests to check hormone function-all have showed no problems, currently cannot do any tests.  Drs don't want to stop birth control because they are trying to get my iron levels up and stop the chronic bleeding.  At this time I don't know where to turn to get help can anyone suggest tests I should have done or what could possibly be causing this. I am constantly fatigued and of late have been suffering with severe headaches and cramping.  I am desperate for  help multiple Drs to include specialist at Childrens hospital and Johns Hopkins cannot tell me what is wrong.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
How are you? Do you still experience your chronic menstruation? If there is no more additional tests being done, warm compress, pain relievers may help with the cramping and headaches. But it is important to determine the underlying cause for proper treatment. Pituitary, hypothalamus and thyroid  disorders are also worth looking into. Do keep us posted. Take care always.

Have they checked for pituitary disorders? I know several of us with pituitary tumors bleed like crazy - you either do not bleed at all, or bleed too much.

Also, I had Cushing's and with my Cushing's I developed a very strange bleeding disorder that caused me to bleed a lot, but not always, so I was borderline of the timing tests, but my periods would go from 8 to 45 days. I had a hemotologist rule out vonwildebrands - but they decided that I had something, but they did not know what it was - so they called it idiopathic thromocytopathy (not thrombocytopenia, which is the normal disease) as my platelets just do not clump. Before surgery I get DDAVP to clump.

I know of another Cushing's person with periods that are horrid - she gets them twice a month.

An idea... And you need not have every symptom to have Cushing's either.

I also had low iron. But I did have PCOS and endometriosis and lots of other things.

Hi,
How are you? I'm sorry to hear what you have been through for the last 6 years. Was there a previous trauma, surgical procedure or other uterine procedure done? What tests were done? If your sonogram, hormones  and other tests were normal, observation and monitoring is essential. AT this point, your iron levels should first be controlled. Other diagnostics such as pap smear, endometrial biopsy and lab tests such as thyroid function tests, CBC, pregnancy test, and serum ferritin will help. Take care and do keep us posted.
