Another question Dr. Archibald S Miller III MD, FACS

You answered some questions earlier and told me to talk to a reconstructive surgeon and I have got an appt in   South  Alabama Burn Center on the 24th of Nov. and the question I have is how do they fix contracures with the pigs skin grafts , I just want to know what I have ahead of me , so I can get some mental rest , I know it can't be as bad as it was before cause I'm not raw from fresh burns  , like step by step and how much P T it's going to take?   THANK YOU SO MUCH  for taking up your time to answer questions for me and others . I think  your a very special person for doing this. God Bless You.and all the wishes in the world to you!!!!       :)

The skin grafts will be removed partly and the areas stretched open, and new skin, or a flap will be placed in the restricted areas. It will not be anywhere as traumatic to you as the first time. The skin grafts take about one month to heal, and then you will be given PT for another month to loosen up the joints that stiffened up with the contractures. Good luck, you are doing the right thing.
