child hooked with riock music

My brother's 3-year-old boy is hooked with Nirvana and other alternative rock bands.

Before,Barney's his favorite but lately he'd rather pretend he's the drummer of whatever band is playing on TV...

AT first, we thought it was kinda cute with his head-banging and all, but I heard children exposed to rock music could turn into aggressive individuals? Is this true?

There is nothing wrong with the, now 7 year old, kid, im guessing. Some children tend to be hyper during the age and let of their bundlle of energy by such activities. Though, modelling is a watch out. Kurt cobain was a depressive and hence it reflected in his music, that being, he is not an appropriate role model as he committee suicide. Try some diversions in music, there is ample rock music which is very much elating and doesn't deliver that bad of a message. Most rock, however, is based on themes of anarchy, rebellion and tend to be anti-sociocultural in nature. Don't obstruck the child's creativity as you never know if he could turn out to be tomorrows neil pert. Radiohead, led zep, beatles, dire straits, the who, ramones, aerosmith are examples of classic bands who'd put out a good grooving or prove a vent for the energy that's pent up. See also whats the reason why the child listens to such specific music, often it reflects life at home or around.

he listens to rock occationally. we have listened to the new chris daughtry cd, bon jovi's have a nice day. if you ask me what band or songs im at a loss right now at this time of night lol. my son loves crazy frog. its irritating and he just finds it great!!! my son loves rock, country, jazz, music from high school musical. i dont think a little rock is going to corrupt him. with anything it has to be in moderation, and not full blast. maybe try the christian rock if christianity is what soots you. really with my son we just helped open him to other types of music, he loves it so much.

thanks for the nice suggestion..

you let your kid listen to rock music..so you happen to know rock bands who are a little mellow with their lyrics?  Somebody suggested classical music but I figured my nephew would have a hard time adjusting to maybe Bach or Mozart...I guess it's the rhythm and beat of rock that entices him..He's actually good in keeping pace with the beats..

I'm not just  sure if the constant drum beats and bass somehow taps the subconconscious for aggressive behavior.. AS for the lyrics,Im sure he has no idea what most of them means..which is quite scary when you think of it..

my 8 yr old son loves rock. i let him listen to some, but it cant have lyrics that are crude or violent. i grew up listening to punk and hard rock, the messages there are horrible now im older! whether he likes it or not, its up to the parents to decide what is right. we listen to radio disney a lot since most of the songs on the radio are too sexual in nature.

ey, your bro is 1 hell of a dude. well research ses that stimuli (like music and such) that the child get exposed to affects a child development. especially their senses. y'know, more like an adaptation-type of development. children exposed to noise, or loud music for that ,matter affects a child sense of hearing.

music is somewhat a preference kind of thing, and child would usually adapt to whatever it is exposed.  better look at the environmental issues regarding child growth....

I am familiar with Nirvana, have a teen and have worked with teens for 14 years.  Still not anythign I would have my preschooler listen to.

Rap is banned in my house.  Foul, foul music.

I surround my kids with classical music, kids music, Christian contemporarty and a little classic rock.

I just think kids should have kid things, I think we force them to grow up to quick in North America.

Actually, the lyrics from Nirvana aren't bad at all. Of course you want to be conscious when it comes to lyrics, but really the lyrics in many rock n' roll songs are not bad. Now rap, on the other hand, is another story altogether.

i thought about smacking his dad's but, except he'd probably kick my butt.

he's been crazy about Nirvana ever since his college days..and now his kid is too...so one minute he'll be singing Barney's lyrics and the next is, its "my gil!my gil!tel me wer, did you sleep...last nayt..."

his dad (my bro) dont think its a big deal...his mom is a little concerned though, but she still lets him listen to it..

i'm planning to talk with my bro about it, but then i'm having second thoughts..you know how sensitive parents are when it comes to their kids...

And the lyrics are certainly not uplifting or beneficial.

His parents should be smacked.

the issue with aggression came about coz there are times when he's having these tantrums, and i'm not sure if he was like this before he listened to rock...

i'm thinking maybe it's normal for his age..

thanks

I listed to rock n' roll as a child and metal as a teenager. I think I turned out okay. ; ^)

Honestly though, I would consider limiting the amount of rock music he listens to and play other kinds of music... just so he has some balance. The good news is, it is probably a phase. As far as the aggression concern, I don't know the answer.
