my lizard is not looking very good and wont move but is not dead. the same happened to my other one, but differently and it died. they are both babies and they all have no problem so far with algae infested tap water. i am very worried because the dead one has always been weak, but the unhappy one has always been very strong and had a very quick growth spurt. it now looks like the weak one.

Help, my brother isn't moving! He's been laying in  tank in the front yard for two days, and nothings happening. His eyes are white and he won't eat the crickets i'm throwing to him every day. . . I think most off you need to move between Georgia and Florida, and sit outside. You'll then have plenty of  pets to keep you entertained!

Just as a general reminder the life expectancy of an anole in the wild is 18months and 3-5 years in captivity. Most are wild caught right from the pet store with a year or so on them then you can only hope your doing what you can for them.A couple friends of mine have had them and both couldn't get much more than a year out of them after much time and money invested.I have three now and keep them seperate because they don't like being around each other. It was the only way I could balance their stress levels. My male is a bully in general and likes to pick on the females until they are dark brown and hiding.

Well I agree with not waiting for a reply on the forum.  But comparing an anole with a human is not so smart either.
I have two anoles and one died last night. I am perplexed and heartbroken. The other one is now looking sick.  They are both very small and have never eaten well.  Im going to be cleaning the cage today and finding answers in hopes its not to late for the second one. I am completely new at taking care of lizards. I bought these for my son but found I enjoy them more.
I have alot of learning to do. The tank is dirty.  We made the mistake of taking one of the noles out and possibly held him to much. So i have waited awhile to clean it so they dont get to stressed.

Wow two people with dead anoles. I'm sorry your anole died but if he wasn't moving, as the sticky in this forum said, you should have immediately taken him/her to the vet instead of waiting around for someone on the internet to reply :( I hope next time you wil rush him in. Its like if your brother wasn't moving, you would wait around for a day for online help, you'd rush to the hospital. Keep in mind please, it might save your pets life next time.

Sorry to hear that the lizard died and that you didn't get any advice to help you.

There could have been a number of factors that killed it. First, having a tank in the sun for two days could've resulted in overheating, not enough heat, too little or too much humidity, not enough shade...basically, a terrarium should be indoors in a controlled environment. It should, for humidity dwelling reptiles, have a glass top to maintain better humidity, lots of climbing plants, a hiding and shade log, and sterile bedding that maintains humidity, such as reptile bark or soil, which can be found at most pet stores. The bedding and tank needs to be cleaned and changed every 3-5 days, otherwise harmful bacteria and fungus can grow quickly, and reptiles have delicate skin that's prone to infection, especially during shedding.
Also, you cannot use tap water for misting or drinking water, because of the chemicals and minerals that are too much for the lizard to digest and absorb into its skin. You need to use distilled or purified bottled water for everything.
Anoles eat small crickets, about 2-5 a day about every 5 days, and the crickets should be dusted in nutrient powder, which you can get at most pet stores. Dusting the crickets gives the lizard the nutrients it can't find in captivity. Feeding the lizard just crickets and waxworms won't keep it healthy because the insects alone don't have all the nutrients the lizard needs that, in nature, it could find from other sources. You also don't want to put too many crickets in the tank, because sometimes they can gang up on the lizard and attack it.
The tank needs to be kept at a temperature between 80°-90°F with a humidity range around 80-90%. You should have a heat pad and a UV light/lamp. I keep my UV light shining on the tank all day, then at night I turn on the heat pad, which is adhesive and stuck to the side of the tank. The lizards have plenty of fake plants to climb and hide in and a log to go under for shade.
Hope you have better luck next time.
