feeding earthworms to a savannah monitor

I brought in a container of farm raised Canadian night crawlers to show to the guy who owns the pet store where I bought my Savannah monitor and he told me that they are junk food and can carry salmonella.

theres so much to learn about reptiles...heres a start......reptiles will tolerate you..not love you...although some get to know you...they need to have a choose of tempetures...many need whole foods like mice,rats,............... they need hide places......some don't need uv light if fed the right food although some do...some need lots of substraight..some don't...savannah monitors die all the time from poor care..you can buy frozen mice and rats from rodent pro.com....if you read this let me know and i'll give you more info....good luck...billy

This is the first time I've looked at the reptile board so this answer may be too late. I'd have to do some research, look through my paperwork but I do know that we do not use commercially raised earthworms for wildlife. I forget what they carry but they're not suitable food. I would guess too that a diet of solely earthworms would not be balanced for any animal. I do hope you've done some research of your own to find out a proper diet for your pet and all is going well.
