7 weeks

I have been coughing for 7 weeks now - been to the dr 4xs - went on vacation cruise - in 87 degree weather hoping to break this nothing, been on a z-pak, steriods, cough syrup, cough pills, puffer, nasal thing, vicks rub on chest/neck wrapped with a scarf, over the counter things, zzz-quil, night quil, motrin for side rib pain from coughing my head off.  Sometimes the cough is so bad I loose control of my bladder now.  I blow my nose couple times a day.  Can't bring up any thing via cough or throat. Feels like something is in my throat.  Chest xray came back negative.  I sleep maybe 5 hours a night (normal for me). Any ideas?  Please help.
Thanks Jane

thanks for responding i have tried that - have sugar free hard candy or sf halls on hand all day long.  Been doing WW for the past year and lost 34 pounds,  I track everything.  Drink water like crazy.  No difference if I am at work or home - same.  I do live in Michigan and we have the 4 seasons don't know if this is playing a role - weather has been 20's - 70's all within the week - hot cold cold hot maybe its something in the air - I really don't know -- Going back to the dr this coming week for the 5th time.  Iv'e never had a flu shot maybe this is my year to get one.

What were you doing 7 weeks + ago, before the chronic cough started?  Could it be something in your diet or environment that changed, even if for a short time?

I'd guess if you can sleep for 5 hours (with little or no coughing)  it may be something in your conscious mind.  No, I am not trying to suggest you are causing it, but is it something you feel and that causes you to cough? Maybe try sucking on ice or drinking water - to help clear the throat area, in case it is something outside your breathing path.s  Maybe chewing gum... trying to keep the mouth and throat moist.

Have you posted on any of the other medhelp communities, such as anxiety, or other areas were someone may have experienced coughing problems related to some emotional or other problem.

Of course, you doctor should be your best chance of finding a answer.  Best if you can remember exactly, write it in a diary, what is happening when the cough starts.
